The Golden State Warriors did not look as good after losing games 3 and 4, but they managed to win a victory in the fifth game by beating the Houston Rockets, 104-99.
Despite Kevin Durant's loss throughout the fourth quarter due to a calf injury, the Warriors were able to score 20 points in the second period to allow Stephen Curry to contain the Rockets advance and take a 3-point lead. -2.
While the Warriors were leading from 102 to 99 at a critical time, Golden State nearly suffered an expensive turnaround before Kevon Looney picked up a ball and Klay Thompson converted to a layup to end the game for the Warriors.
Durant's injury is unclear, but the Warriors may have to overcome his absence to eliminate the Rockets in Game 6. Here are three points to remember from the Warriors Game 5 win:
Sigh of relief
When Kevin Durant arrived lame after planting his right foot for a shot back, it was impossible not to think the worst: Achilles tear. There seemed to be all the signs and fate of warriors, but, in many ways, the entire landscape of the NBA was at stake. When Allie LaForce of TNT announced that it was all over the world. a good strain, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Well, everyone except the Rockets, maybe.
It remains to be seen how long Durant will remain, and the calf strain may not even be an official diagnosis at this stage. But all things considered, this is the good news that the Warriors could have hoped for.
Now it's a championship response
Stephen Curry was, and is still largely in the middle of one of the worst shooting series of his career. Given the stakes, it is probably the worst. When Durant came out, Curry had only nine points and everything was still missing. But just as he searched Durant in the locker room, Curry was there.
All in all, Curry scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half. Klay Thompson hit huge shots. Draymond Green hit a three monster. Andre Iguodala has made games. Kevon Looney was the MVP of the game. One night when the Celtics showed everyone what was withering and death was like without a fight, the Warriors reminded everyone what a champion's heart looked like. You do not win three out of four leagues by accident.
The series is far from over
When a series at the best of seven is tied 2-2, the team that wins the fifth game wins the series in 82% of the cases. In other words, historically, the Rockets have less than a 20% chance of winning this series. But it does not feel like that, is not it? The home team has won every game in this series and if Durant is away for Game 6, it's obvious that you're favoring the Rockets in this game. Anything can happen in Game 7. This series is far from over.
