Activision continues to tease some sort of change to the main map of Call of Duty: Warzone, this time with the imminent arrival of a boat.
This week, Activision said that Verdansk will be getting a number of points of interest to discover or explore as part of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season Two. It moves the story of Warzone forward, we’re told. The trailer for Season 2 is below:
Mention was made of the tanker Vodianoy, which players had spotted off the coast of Rebirth Island recently. This ship had disappeared at sea, but is now heading for the port of Verdansk. “Nearby operators are recommended to exercise extreme caution,” the official text reads, “as the vessel is carrying unknown cargo and its crew cannot be contacted”.
And there is something “starting to rumble” deep underground in Verdansk, although these new locations have yet to be detailed. I imagine players will sniff them out shortly after Season 2 kicks off on February 25.
But before that, players spotted the Vodianoy heading for the port of Verdansk in-game.
Redditor Kennnt posted a gameplay clip to the Warzone submarine showing the ship approaching, as well as a thunderstorm above.

Meanwhile, the screen distortions continue. The latter is accompanied by more Russian discussions, apparently aboard the Vodianoy itself. Here is a clip tweeted by @xRadical__:

“Captain Rosental is speaking. The Russian ship Vodianoy. … has arrived. We were carrying strange biological material. What have we done ?! There has been an outbreak of infection. I’m afraid we may not be able to. not contain it. (proceeds to shout). “
So what’s going on? Call of Duty fans have many theories. The Vodianoy is expected to crash into Verdansk and become one of the new points of interest teased by Activision. From there, players suspect that the ship will contain zombies, spit zombies on the map, or release this “strange biological material” that turns dead players into zombies.
It seems like a safe bet. Last week, players discovered the Cold War Zombies Test Machine in Warzone’s growling playlist. Since then, more have been added to the map. Zombies are therefore almost certainly coming to Warzone. Remember, for the first time ever, the scenarios for Call of Duty: Warzone, Black Ops, Zombies, and Modern Warfare are all connected.
Speculating on what will happen later in season two, some believe this zombie outbreak in Verdansk will eventually force a nuclear bomb – just to be sure. Remember Activision teasing about something “starting to rumble” deep underground in Verdansk? Maybe these rumblings are coming from underground silos. The clip below, taken from the Season 2 trailer released this week, shows a player ziplining out of an underground silo and other players fighting outside. This is currently not possible in Warzone:
In the same trailer, we see a character starting an enemy – it’s Sparta! style – in an open silo. Again, this is not something you can do currently in Warzone:
Here is an interesting theory from redditor SapphireXP: “I guess: this is the ship from Rebirth Island and it will crash into Verdansk because of the storm. Chemicals are released. Dead players turn into zombies. They don’t. see no way out and bomb Verdansk. … we get a new map. “
If a nuclear bomb is about to explode Verdansk into a thousand pieces and players have long suspected that this is how Activision will do it, what will happen to the map? Maybe we can play Verdansk again, but that has changed due to the explosion. There might be a completely new card to play. There is certainly a feeling among the players that Verdansk as it stands now has run its course, and there is an appetite for a new cadre.
