The revamped London Royal Ravens lineup for 2021 features many of Europe’s most accomplished players, but will they be able to outshine the world’s best teams in one of the most competitive years in Call of’s history? Duty?

Keeping the same approach from 2020, the Royal Ravens have remained loyal to their fan base. Rather than catching North American superstars or signing up and recruiting prospects from the Challengers scene, the London-based franchise has recruited another full line from the EU.

For fans of last year’s squad, a number of familiar faces are returning. After getting somewhat in shape at the end of the year, with a fourth place at Champs, the core of the list is looking to continue this momentum in 2021.

While it can be easy to ignore them at first, the Ravens could prove to be an increasingly difficult game, even for the best teams, as the next CDL season begins.

Europe’s chance to overthrow the world’s best teams

Throughout 2020, the Ravens roster was constantly evolving. While twins Bradley “wuskin” Marshall and Matthew “Skrapz” Marshall didn’t miss a week, the remaining spots were in rotation for much of the year. Naturally, it is difficult to build on a base when the pieces are mixed up.

However, when Dylan, Seany and Zer0 joined the mix, they were quickly stranded for the remainder of the season. Once this trio entered the fray together, they were able to improve over time. It helped pave the way for a superb Champs race which eclipsed all expectations.

Now they have a chance to capitalize on this late improvement and capitalize on a full year of growth.

This time Alexx, another seasoned European, strengthens the team. In the full reverse, Alexx comes from a year with the Minnesota ROKKR, a team that started strong but fell during the year.

Together, this group of players has every chance to be one of the strongest teams the region has ever offered. They all have years of experience behind them and know what it takes to hang on to the best in the world.

That being said, the Ravens certainly got off to a rough start in the Classic Kickoff. They failed in a rambling battle with the Paris Legion that went the distance. Although they dominated the Control game mode with a 3-0 victory, they fumbled in both Hardpoints and failed to find their rhythm in the final S&D.

It’s important to note that with the league back online in 2021, nearly every CDL player has moved to the United States to compete there. Unfortunately for the Ravens, that opening showcase fell with Zer0 still playing from the UK.

It’s unclear if he’ll be able to move in time for the actual season, but he still coped even with a major ping disadvantage.

By no means will 2021 be an easy year for the Ravens. They have their work cut out for them to challenge expectations. If they’re going to be in the top of any given Major’s team, they’re going to need a hell of a run.

But they’re the only real team that has a chance to actually put a non-NA franchise on the map. It’s a safe bet that this EU side will remain competitive against the best and sometimes cause upheaval in early 2021.
