Was Halo: The Master Chief Collection taken into account on PS4?

Microsoft seems to be becoming more and more agnostic on the platform, with its software and services now exploring devices outside the Xbox ecosystem. The idea that Halo arrives on the PlayStation 4 is not as wild as it used to be – although it does, still seems crazy. Speaking of a recent episode of the sacred symbols podcast, however, former IGN publisher Colin Moriarty believes that a port of the Master Chief Collection was, at one point, considered for the Sony system.

"I know with great authority that we talk about Master Chief Collection on PS4 a few years ago," he said in a recent episode, which you can listen to here. "Like, I have this on a big authority."

Halo's franchise director, Frank O'Connor, has since weighed in the rumor, stating that he "does not know the details of the conversations between the platforms at the company level, but that the distance between the" plans "and certain conversations" And if for example "is a gulf significant". He added, "We've had a lot over the years, but no lines of code have even been reviewed."

It therefore seems that if there is a truth in the rumor, it has never gone beyond the stage of consideration. It remains to be seen whether these discussions will go further in the future: Microsoft seems determined to put its software and services between the largest possible number of hands, which could lead to unexpected partnerships. For the moment, however, we are going to assume that the chances of Master Chief playing on PlayStation are low. Of course, there are always dreams.
