Washington, DC, Attorney General Karl Racine has opened an investigation into the National Rifle Association and the NRA Foundation, Inc.
In a statement Friday, Racine said he would review all "financial records, vendor payments and payments to officers and directors" associated with the NRA and its charitable foundation. Subpoenas for the records were also issued as part of the investigation.
The announcement made Friday by Racine marks the second state-level survey on NRA about its non-profit organization status. Racine explained that the investigation was ongoing because "the protection of charities and their assets in the district" was the responsibility of the Attorney General's office.
