The Washington Post is the latest mainstream media outlet to sound the alarm bells over the ongoing southern border crisis, telling readers that President Biden could face political consequences as a result.
As the White House continues to resist describing the wave of migrants trying to enter the United States as a “crisis,” the Post published a report on Monday with the headline, “Biden faces growing political threat from upheaval borders”.
The report quotes Representative Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, whose district borders Mexico and has been a staunch critic of the Biden administration’s handling of the situation.
“His people have to do a better job of listening to those of us who have already done it,” Cuellar told the Post.

The document went on to highlight concerns Biden should expect on both sides of the aisle as the crisis continues.
“Centrist Democrats are worried about attacks that call them soft on border security. Liberals and immigration activists are sounding the alarm bells about how migrants are being treated. And Republicans are throwing more and more the bases of attacks focused on immigration during the midterm elections, ”the Post reported.
“The Republicans are going to turn around and use this as a political weapon against the Democrats – that we are weak at the border, we are not doing enough, we are letting everyone in,” Cuellar told the Post. “I have warned the party and the administration, don’t let this get out of hand, because all you’re going to do is give the Republicans a problem.”

The Post also warned voters may not be convinced former President Donald Trump should be blamed for the current crisis, as White House press secretary Jen Psaki suggested on Monday.
“The president receives high marks from most Americans for his efforts to curb the coronavirus pandemic, including a massive $ 1.9 trillion relief bill,” the article continued. “This has left Republicans scrambling to find a significant problem as they seek to take over the House and Senate in 2022. Many Republicans believe immigration could be that topic.”
