Watch a Porsche Taycan break the Guinness record for an EV drift

“When the driving stability programs are off, a Powerlide with the electric Porsche is extremely easy, especially of course with this model variant,” Retera said. “However, it was also very tiring for me to keep my concentration high for 210 laps, especially since the irrigated asphalt on the drift circuit doesn’t offer the same grip everywhere.

Guinness defines drift as “performed when there is a speed differential between the vehicle’s drive wheels and its ground speed,” these parameters being checked by yaw rate sensors and other instruments. Retera’s record is specifically for electric vehicles and there doesn’t appear to be a previous record in this category, so the Taycan essentially set the benchmark. The longest drift of a car over 8 hours is a whopping 232.5 miles, achieved in a BMW M5 that was (incredibly) refueled in the middle of the attempt – something you will clearly never see with an EV.
