Chef, restaurateur, media mogul, author, fried chicken innovator and new podcast host David Chang has taken another personal milestone: He’s now the first celebrity to earn $ 1 million on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

With the help of his “smartest friend,” screenwriter Alan Yang, Chang properly went through the questions about inkblot testing and Emirati currency, and SpaceX capsules named after Peter’s songs, Paul and Mary (“Puff the Magic Dragon”, obviously), before calling a friend for help on the last lap.

The question: “Although he and his wife never touched a switch for fear of being shocked, who was the first president to have electricity in the White House?” Was it Grant? Harrison? Chester A. Arthur? Andrew Johnson? It was, Weekly entertainment observed, a “nail biting moment”.

With $ 1 million in suspense, he consulted his friend, ESPN reporter Mina Kimes. Harrison, she told him. Harrison, Chang says. It was Harrison.

Here’s the best news: Chang’s million celebs will go to the Southern Smoke Foundation, a crisis relief organization for people in the food and beverage industry, a company (even pre-COVID) not exactly known for its safety net. The foundation offers grants to help cover individual emergency expenses, from medical bills and car accidents to weather disasters.
