‘Derek DelGaudio is IN AND OF SOI, ‘a film made by Frank Oz, airs on Hulu starting Friday, January 22.
Both Derek DelGaudio and Frank Oz are on Stephen Colbert’s Tonight Show (Thursday, Jan 21) to talk about making this cinematic take on Derek’s live, interactive performance experience.
We covered the performance here on Boing Boing, and here in 2016. We really love Derek’s work at Boing Boing. And I really like this movie.
I watched this movie months ago and was deeply moved. I never saw the show live so it was completely new to me.
I don’t want to give too much, but I can say that EN ET DE SOI seems like some kind of soul medicine to me right now, and @derek_del and @TheFrankOzJam really publish their collaboration on time.
Transcendent stuff.

In & Of Itself by Derek DelGaudio is a new genre of lyrical poem. It tells the story of a man who struggles to see through the illusion of his own identity, only to discover that identity itself is an illusion..
In & Of Itself was a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience, created by Derek DelGaudio and directed by Frank Oz. The show had its world premiere at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles on May 3, 2016, where it saw several expansions before moving to the Daryl Roth Theater in New York City. He opened Off-Broadway to critical acclaim and once again quickly extended his initial 10-week engagement, selling his intimate 150-seat home night after night. The show continued to expand its airing, again and again, until DelGaudio decided (somewhat controversially) to end the show at the height of its success, stating, “I feel like for saying what I wanted to say. ” After 72 weeks, 560 performances, and over $ 7 million in box office sales, In & Of Itself ended as one of the most successful shows in non-Broadway history.
