Watch live Nokia unveil the world's first smartphone with a 5-lens camera – BGR

Just two years ago, HMD Global invaded the World Mobile Congress with one of the most anticipated press conferences of the event. Just like that, Nokia was back, baby – and Nokia's Android phones became exciting for the first time in the brand's history. Since then, the company has launched a number of entry-level and midrange Android devices, as well as some flagship products that were not quite ready to compete with their direct rivals. The main goal was clear: HMD wanted to sell affordable handsets worldwide and the company quickly expanded into various markets such as China, Europe and the United States.

But that does not mean that HMD is moving away from high-end devices that will ship the latest models of iPhone and Galaxy S. The MWC 2019 will bring us the first device of its kind, the Nokia 9 PureView, known since 2 years. In addition, the Nokia 9 is the world's first handset with a five-lens camera in the back.

It sounded crazy when we saw the first rumors about a penta-lens Nokia phone, but then the leaks became real. Soon, we saw press pictures from the phone that confirmed that the phone would carry that iconic Nokia camera brand that you would see on the company's Windows phones a long time ago: PureView. Nokia had already announced the camera features of the Nokia 9 on Instagram earlier this week and this one image should make you want to know more about the phone:

That said, there are two things you will not necessarily appreciate about this first generation Nokia 9 PureView model. First of all, according to the leaks, there are huge glasses around the screen. This is something we do not want to be exposed to, now that all-screen phones exist. Secondly, and this is something on which Nokia hopes to work in the future, the Nokia 9 PureView will come with built-in 2018 hardware. Namely, the Snapdragon 845 processor that powered all of yesterday's flagship products. Rumors suggest that a better Nokia 9 model could be considered for the end of the year, but we doubt that HMD is tackling these rumors at today's event.

As this is a Nokia event, we expect HMD to unveil additional Android phones that cover other prizes, as well as a modern version of an iconic Nokia phone from the past. Of course, this is just speculation based on what society has done in previous years.

For all the news from the Nokia press conference, follow the live feed below from 10 am EST. You will find our blog live under the integrated YouTube video.
