Nick Jonas is an isolated astronaut who longs to be home with his wife in the new “Spaceman” video. The song is the title track from her fourth studio album, which arrives Friday and is available for pre-order. The 11-song set is the sequel to 2016 Last year was complicated.
In the visual directed by Anthony Mandler, Jonas wanders on a desolate planet where he lives in a futuristic mirrored mansion. He repeatedly tries to get home and fails. His resilience and love for his wife at home, however, is unwavering.
His wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas makes appearances via a hologram and screens he watches, fueling the space man’s will to keep the faith that they will be reunited if he keeps trying.
The video captures the lonely effects of the quarantine, which Jonas explores in the song’s lyrics. “Mask off as soon as I get home / Make it safe now that I’m alone,” he sings. “Almost like an astronaut / I feel like an astronaut / Keep thinking we’re close / No drugs overdosed yet / I’m in space, man, I feel like an astronaut / And I’m talking to you / But I never have the impression that it goes by myself. “
Jonas debuted the song live for the first time when he was both musical guest and host on Saturday Night Live in February.
