Watch Rivian R1S defy gravity and logic with incredible climb in Moab, Utah

Electric automaker Rivian is still working on the first deliveries of its vehicles, but testing is going extremely well. This fact is evident in a recent video posted by company CEO RJ Scaringe, who is in Moab, Utah with the all-electric SUV, which displays incredible scaling capabilities in Moab’s rugged rock formations.

A testament to Rivian’s impressive spec for off-road performance and capability, Scaringe and Company took to an extremely steep hill on one of Moab’s notorious rock formations to display the incredible scale of the R1S. The company, which has touted its vehicles as the ideal solution for the adventurer, continues to test its vehicles ahead of initial deliveries, which are now scheduled for September 2021, starting with the R1T pickup.

The video shows an R1S, wrapped in salmon-colored skin, seemingly defying gravity and logic with the climb. The boulder appears to be extremely sloping and at first glance is incredibly intimidating. However, the R1S manages to scale the rock formation with relative ease, further reinforcing anyone’s doubts that this vehicle cannot handle the harshest off-road conditions the world has to offer.

Incredibly, the all-electric SUV had relatively no problems climbing the hill and seemed to handle the aggressively steep incline with no real issues. There are small portions of tire slip that cause screeching due to loss of traction, but this never causes the car to roll back or struggle. The R1S is really impressive for this performance.

The Rivian R1S can handle such difficult terrain thanks to its revolutionary design. The SUV has an approach angle of 34.3 degrees, which gives difficult terrain little credibility as to whether it will be too much for the all-electric vehicle. Plus, 14.9-inch ground clearance and 28.9-degree crossover give owners little to worry about damaging their car’s undercarriage. These terrains were specifically designed when Rivian designed their vehicles. Engineers were more than willing to create a series of vehicles that would give the rugged, difficult rock formations their long-awaited match.

Rivian’s R1S is expected to start shipping later this year, as the launch edition of the SUV will arrive at customers soon. Additionally, the company offers an Adventure and Exploration package that will deliver exactly what every owner is looking for in a vehicle. The R1S starts at $ 70,000, and the last two vehicle configurations will begin shipping in January 2022.

Rivian is based in Normal, Ill., But plans to open a second assembly plant in the United States, according to a new report.
