Netflix released the latest trailer for its animation Witcher prequel, giving us a better look at the characters in the film and allowing us to hear its English-speaking voice actors for the first time.
The Witcher: The Wolf’s Nightmare focuses on the youth of Geralt’s mentor, Vesemir, “an arrogant young witcher who enjoys killing monsters for money,” according to the Netflix synopsis. Plot details available are slim, but the film involves Vesemir facing off against “a strange new monster” and “demons from his past” in a politically charged realm. (So far Witcher.)
The film is being directed by Korean animation house Studio Mir, which has previously tackled a number of Netflix animations, including Dota: Dragon Blood and Voltron: Legendary Defender, as well as shows like The legend of Korra. The trailer includes a fun nod to The witcherThe infamous bathtub meme, with Vesemir, instead of Geralt, enjoying a nice bath.
The vocal cast includes Theo James as Vesemir, Lara Pulver as Tetra, Graham McTavish as Deglan and Mary McDonnell as Lady Zerbst. The film was written and produced by Beau DeMayo and co-produced by The witcherhowrunner and executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, under the direction of Kwang Il Han of Studio Mir.
Expect to see even more Witcher content from Netflix in the future, with a live-action spin-off and a second season of the main show, starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, arriving on December 17. This is not surprising given that The witcher was Netflix’s most popular first season when it debuted (although Bridgerton has since stolen that record). You threw a coin at your witcher, and Netflix is happy to deliver.
