There is a satisfaction that comes from building something yourself. However, learning these skills, like the creative use of a 3D pen, can seem daunting. However, watching the Sanago 3D YouTube channel makes learning interesting as the creator builds a full three-dimensional model of the all-electric Porsche Taycan sedan using a 3D pen, plastics and other materials. The end product is a stunning handmade recreation with task lights.

The designer starts with a base, drawing the car’s outer frame – sides, top, hood – on a sketch by Taycan. When completed, the greenhouse and bodywork are combined into a crude wireframe of the vehicle. He then slowly begins to fill the body panels with the pen, using small circular motions; however, it is far from over. A soldering iron helps smooth out the swirls, while a grinder takes the process even further. Hard-to-reach places require manual sanding with sandpaper.

The following are several cycles of applying and sanding the sealant to help smooth the Taycan’s body panels before applying paint. In this case, the Porsche receives a bold green exterior color. Once it’s dry, it’s time to move on to the finer details, like the front bumper lower shield, working headlights and taillights, badges and (plastic) windows. Tiny LEDs help illuminate the carefully constructed four-bulb headlights and large taillight element.

The project lasted a month, with countless hours spent on the more tedious aspects of construction, although the end result was just plain neat. What really completes the build is the rc car base that the Taycan’s body rides on, bringing the creation to life. However, the Korean winter hampered its test drive with the snow proving a bit difficult for the low RC car, although perhaps a winter tire set is in the future of the small car.
