WCC-Mexico City 2019 championship standings: Dustin Johnson leaves no footprints to lead the weekend

After 36 holes of the WGC-Mexico 2019 Championship, we got the rank that we thought we could get. The top of the tournament is littered with names like Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia as we head for the weekend. And these golfers also did not provide the only firework display of Friday's second round. Tiger Woods probably hit the shot of the day and Tommy Fleetwood had an incredible effort to start his second round. Here is a detailed overview of who is playing well and how it all happened in the second round at Chapultepec.

First place – Dustin Johnson (-11): No surprise here. Johnson has two top-10s in two starts here and won this event in 2017 against Fleetwood. He continued his 64 years Thursday with another free bogey round Friday and did a little history in the process. He's really the guy to beat (Vegas preferred him among the favorites of +125) and I expect him to keep his 20th win and his sixth title WGC (under 12 Woods).

Last place – Shaun Norris and Sanghyun Park (+17): Because these events do not have any cuts, the difference between the first and the last is always comical. These guys are down from 28 to D.J. with 36 holes yet to come.

Other candidates – Matt Kuchar (-10), Rory McIlroy (-9), Sergio Garcia (-7), Tommy Fleetwood (-7): McIlroy may have had the most disappointing round 2 of this group after scoring his Under 8 score at 11 under after starting 3-3-3-3. He played weakly on coming home, however, hit a ball in the water on a par 5 and a ninth in the ninth. It was not pretty, but the good news for him, is that his 63 Thursday is a buoy for his week, and that he will still be playing next to DJ late on Saturday afternoons .

What did Tiger Woods do? Big Cat is in the tournament! Woods shot a under 66 this included the stroke of the event (and his best shot of the year) on his last hole of the day. He led the race most of the day and now has the opportunity to really argue with a quick start Saturday.

Who had a good day? Phil Mickelson shot 79 points in the first round and 65 points in the second round, as the differences of 14 strokes between two consecutive rounds are normal. Seriously, it was cool to watch Lefty squeak while he had no chance of winning the tournament. A pro.

Stat of the day: 2-2, as at the beginning Fleetwood is gone. He swayed the first two holes – also known as the American – and seemed to want to melt the scoreboard. He finished with a nice 6-under 65, but that start was pretty legendary.

Shot of the day: Maybe the blow of the year.

What to watch the day 3: All! This ranking is loaded, this golf course is fun and there are countless stories at the top or just behind the duo D.J.-McIlroy, which will disappear last. Kuchar, Fleetwood, Garcia, Woods, etc., will be among their pursuers. If the first two years of this tournament give the impression, we will have a superb two-day final.
