I think I spent about 800 hours playing Super Mario Maker on the Wii U. My friend (and professional) Super Mario speedrunner) GrandPOOBear however spent 5,000 hours. I invited him to dissect the Super Mario Maker 2 trailer with me.
In the video, you can see us report each new feature, make a philosophy on our favorite (and least favorite) bonuses, and fear the potential of trolls for new features.
GrandPOOBear's position on Super Mario Maker 2 At the time of writing this article, he has the feeling that he will play for 6,000 hours and that his level of hype is "14 out of 10". You heard it here first.
He also points out that many key moments of this trailer (eg, its opening with Mario who badly needs a sloping surface) constitute an almost concrete proof that Nintendo has listened to the Mario Maker community putting together Super Mario Maker 2. You can almost feel his enthusiasm as he discusses the diversity of multidirectional scrolling.
We ended up talking for a little less than an hour. Yes, this may seem excessive, since the Nintendo trailer only lasts one minute and 27 seconds. However, one hour corresponds to only 1 / 5800th of our Mario Maker experience, and Nintendo packaged a lot information in this trailer.
