Foreman Spike

it’s almost four years from a new Mario Brothers. movie has been announced, and during that time we haven’t learned almost anything about it, other than the fact that it’s being directed by the same team behind the Minions movies and it’s going to be animated.

Today, however, we have Something. It is not much, but seeing as it is something, it is something! During a two-hour interview with Bert Kreischer, comedian Sebastian Maniscalco is asked what he does for the rest of his day, when he casually drops the fact that he’s gone to work on the Mario film, in which he plays the role of Spike, “their boss”.

If the character’s name doesn’t immediately sound familiar, it’s because it’s deep enough. Spike, aka Foreman Spike, hails from Demolition team, a game released on Famicom / NES in 1985, where he is Mario and Luigi’s boss as they work to demolish a construction site as fast as they can.

Of course, that doesn’t tell us almost anything about the movie other than these simple facts, but hey, anyone looking to speculate might be encouraged that he dug as deep as Demolition team for inspiration!

Last I heard, the film was due for release in 2022 and is still on track. Since it’s August 2021, hopefully that means we have a trailer soon, as I’m dying to see what this movie looks like.
