Deciding which of the many truly wireless headset sets to buy can seem like a daunting task. Unless you are one of those who believe in the hype of the AirPods, the decision could then seem very easy. Do not be that person.
The truly wireless headphones are a marvel of engineering and a handful of companies have built incredible products. You have disturbed types, like the $ 160 Apple AirPods, which promise a wireless wireless headphone experience. You have the kind of hook, like the Beats $ 250 Powerbeats Pro, which offers an ultra secure fit for active lifestyles. You have the popcorn design, like the $ 170 Jabra Elite 65t, that sounds right in your head. And you have the prettiest, like the $ 300 Master & Dynamic MW07, which brings elegance to the equation.
To know which futuristic buttons would be best for most people at the best price, we opposed these four sets. We have taken a close look at their design, connectivity and sound quality, which are undoubtedly the three most important features of any wireless headset. All these elements have received positive reviews from Gizmodo, so there are not really any losers in the pack. There was a clear winner, though.
Design
Many people think that form is the most important element of atrial design, and in many ways it is. Once you've found a set of buttons that fit right in your ear, you'll notice other things you like and hate: the operation of the buttons, the size of the box, their appearance in a mirror. Headphones can be, after all, a bit of a fashion decision.
In our design battle, we started with adjustment and then considered these other factors. As noted above, our four competitors also represent four quite different approaches to atrial design. AirPods are basically pieces of teardrop-shaped plastic that rest on the bottom of your ear and fall to some people. The Powerbeats Pro represent the opposite approach with a very safe (and somewhat bulky) hook design and silicone ear tips that rest on your ear canal. The Jabra and Master & Dynamic models also use silicone ear tips, but they enhance the tightness of your ear, which not only keeps them comfortable, but also prevents some outside noises from interfering with your listening experience.
On the only form, we had to eliminate the AirPods. Since there is no way to adjust the design to fit different types of ears, they will fit or fall into the gutter when you turn your head quickly. The AirPods also lack waterproofing, so a trip down the gutter could zap them for good. And at the other end of the spectrum, we had to eliminate the Pro Powerbeats because, even though they were very safe, the design of the ear hook makes them a bit difficult to put on and does not feel like not good if you wear glasses. They are waterproof and sweat-proof, making them perfect for the gym. But for a daily listening, the maximum design can be annoying. The Powerbeats charging box is also hilarious and will not fit in most pockets.
This brings us to the Master & Dynamic MW07 headphones. The Master & Dynamic is available in a range of colors and finishes, including an extremely expensive Louis Vuitton edition. So it is clear that society is looking at the angle of fashion. They look great too! But frankly, they're not snug and not as waterproof as some of the other tested headphones – the MW07s are rated IPX4, which means they're only moderately immune to splashing – so you do not have to can not wear them during exercise. It is also difficult to press the buttons at the top and bottom of the buttons, which may seem like a slight problem until you remove your phone every time you want to adjust the volume.
The Jabra Elite 65t manages to solve all these problems. The compact design fits perfectly even to smaller ears. (We tested it with our smaller colleagues, who liked the fit.) The buttons were intuitive and easy to support. A surprising feature is the small microphone arm that not only offers a better call quality, but also serves as a nice little handle to insert the headphones and take them out. In addition, the charging box is pleasantly compact. The Elite 65t also offers two different modes of robustness. While the $ 170 Elite 65t is splash-protected (IP55 rated), the $ 190 Elite Active 65t is splash-proof, sweat-proof and dust-resistant. They are also a bit more adherent, so they do not break down if you crush them on the treadmill.

connectivity
Just a few years ago, most truly wireless headsets struggled to connect and stay connected to devices. There is a physics problem in the path. Since Bluetooth signals do not get into the water and your head is mostly water, the two buttons can not talk to each other directly. Businesses have found solutions to this problem by ensuring that each headset connects independently to your device. The general improvements to Bluetooth technology have changed the game.
Thanks to advances of this type, the four truly wireless headsets performed remarkably well in this battle. The pairing of the ear cups varies slightly depending on the earphones and devices to which they connect. We tested them all with an Apple iPhone XS and a Google Pixel 3. To make things even more difficult, we did our tests at Times Square, where radio interference often poses a problem for wireless devices.
Unsurprisingly, the AirPods and the Powerbeats Pro connect perfectly to an iPhone. Both headphones feature Apple's new H1 wireless chip, which uses Bluetooth 5 technology, as well as magical magic from the Apple brand, which allows you to pair headphones almost instantly with any iOS device. Both headphones also use proximity sensors so that when you put them in your ear, they immediately turn on and connect to the nearest paired device. It worked great with the iPhone as with Android. Pairing the headsets with the Android, however, was a bit more boring because you had to follow the traditional Bluetooth pairing process and press a button on the headset casing to start the process. If you do not have the case, you will not be able to connect with a new device.
The Master & Dynamic and Jabra headphones were almost perfect in terms of connectivity during our tests. Each set of headsets requires you to hold down a button to start the pairing process. Once paired, the buttons are supposed to connect to your phone as soon as you remove them from the box. This is where we noticed some failures. Master & Dynamic has not been connected 100% of the time, although it's easy enough to enter the Bluetooth settings and connect them manually. The Jabras suffered from a similar problem and very occasionally, only the right atrium connected immediately.
Given their reliability and ease of use, the AirPods and Powerbeats Pro pioneered this battle. The use of proximity sensors instead of a power button seems a bit odd at first. (All gadgets would not have a power button ?!) But the more you use these Apple headphones, the more magic it is to put them in your head and make them work immediately. The Powerbeats Pro, for whatever reason, seemed slightly more reliable, however, since the AirPods had been cut several times while we were walking in Times Square. It is possible that the larger Powerbeats Pro has a better antenna design, but who knows. The Powerbeats Pro was nevertheless the best helmet we have tested.

Sound quality
The battle of sound quality was not just about the audio fidelity of reading in the earphones themselves, but also about the quality of the microphones when making phone calls. But since most people buy headphones to listen to music, the quality of the sound during playback is slightly higher. It is also, apparently, expensive.
The AirPods, once again, are the first to participate in this battle. They do not sound as good as other headsets and because they do not have noise isolation functions, they are particularly uncomfortable if you're in a crowded cafe or on the train. You will not be able to hear your music. The quality of the calls is very good, but if you can not hear the other person online, it does not matter.
Pro Powerbeats suffer from a similar problem. The sound quality when playing music is excellent, especially if you like your headphones to be a bit more serious. But since the silicone tips sit on the outside of your ear canal without creating a tight seal, many outside noises become encrusted. As with the AirPods, call quality was excellent, but the general lack of isolation or noise cancellation makes the Powerbeats Pro stink in noisy environments.
Jabra solves the problem of noise easily. They offer not only a tight fit for noise isolation, but also additional microphones for noise reduction. (The technology seems similar to the operation of active noise canceling headphones, but Jabra does not claim that the Elite 65t features noise canceling.) Of all the headphones tested, the Jabras are what's better for noisy environments. also excellent. Unfortunately, their sound quality for playing music is a bit short. The agreement just feels a little tight.
The Master & Dynamic headphones, for their part, offer better sound quality than most of the on-ear headphones we've tested. They have a surprisingly impressive range with the ability to do everything from classical music to hip hop. The treble is clear and precise, while the bass is particularly serious for such a small pilot. (The MW07 has 10 millimeter beryllium speakers, a material is supposed to provide a more accurate sound.) The quality of the calls is also excellent, but you will really want to listen to all your music with these headphones.

This one is near. Each of these truly wireless headset sets is ideal for specific groups of people. Apple fans who want a basic and relatively cheap set of headphones will love AirPods. Athletes who want to ride the wheel without dropping their headsets will love the Powerbeats Pro. Fashionista audiophiles will probably be obsessed with the Master & Dynamic MW07.
But as we said at the beginning, we sought to find the truly wireless headset that would be best for most people. The Jabra Elite 65t are these headphones. Starting at $ 170, they represent incredible value. They have a tight fit and durable construction that withstands exercise and rainstorms. You can get an even more durable set, the Jabra Elite Active 65t, for $ 190. They will connect to any device almost as reliable as their competitors. Both versions of the 65t also offer a noise reduction function and several microphones that improve sound quality as well as quality.
Good design, quality and exceptional price make the Jabra Elite 65t our favorite wireless headset of the moment. They might not be an Apple product or a fashion statement. It is perhaps for this reason that Jabra earpieces feel so good.
