Police seized several guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and tactical equipment from a 37-year-old California man who reportedly threatened colleagues and guests at the hotel where he worked as a cook.

A colleague from Rodolfo Montoya of the Long Beach Marriott contacted the Long Beach Police Department on Monday after Montoya threatened to conduct a mass shootout there.

A search at Huntington Beach 's home in Montoya on Tuesday revealed the cache of weapons, which included large – capacity magazines and assault rifles, that it is illegal to own in California.

Montoya has been accused of making and distributing assault weapons, possessing an assault weapon and criminal threats, the LBPD said in a statement Wednesday. He is held on bail of $ 500,000 at Long Beach Municipal Prison.

"The witnesses who came forward and the diligence of our employees involved in this investigation most likely prevented a threat of violence and saved many lives."

Luna thanked the hotel employee for providing the information.
