The Cincinnati Bearcats and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will kick off Saturday at 2:30 p.m. EST amid temperatures reaching 70 degrees, Accuweather’s latest forecast.
The outlook for the weather forecasting firm also includes a 25 percent chance of rain in the Notre Dame Stadium area at kickoff, and an increase to 71 percent by 5 p.m. Game.
If you’re heading to campus early for tailgating, visiting the bookstore, or catching the ABC57 pre-game show, expect mid-60s temperatures, partially sunny skies, and little chance of rain. (I think I’d try to shake hands with “Rocket” Ismail at Joyce Center at noon, but that’s just me.)
Notre Dame last played on October 2, 2010, when they started at 8:12 p.m. local time against Boston College at Alumni Stadium. The temperature at the start of this match was 52 degrees. The last home game on October 2 was in 2004, a 41-16 loss to Purdue. The temperature at the 1:37 p.m. kickoff was 55 degrees, with winds of 14 mph blowing from the northwest. (Notre Dame is 13-2 all-time on October 2.)
The Irish and the Bearcats last played on October 20, 1900. The Notre Dame Scholastic, South Bend Tribune and Indianapolis Journal reported the score of 56-0 in favor of the hosts at Cartier Field, while the Cincinnati Enquirer had the score at 57-0.
“Notre-Dame’s backfield is very solid, which explains the big score against Cincinnati on Saturday,” The Detroit Free Press wrote in its Oct. 24 edition. “But the line needs to be developed, as the experience gained in the last few games shows that it will not hold up against strong teams.”
