[ad_1]

NEW YORK (WABC) – A large and long-lasting winter storm is expected to hit the tri-state region from Sunday evening, bringing considerable snow and high winds to the area.

The nor’easter will follow the coldest air mass of the season, resulting in unique, sub-zero digital wind chills in the region.

A winter storm watch was issued from Sunday evening to late Monday evening for much of the tri-state area. Strong winds for the city and the coast are possible, as well as coastal flooding. Snow could continue to fall until Tuesday morning.

Channel 7 meteorologist Amy Freeze said there is a 40% chance that the city’s total snowfall will be in the 6-10 inch zone by the storm’s end.

The long duration of the storm will make the snow messy and poorly packed.

In central and southern Jersey, residents should expect to be hit hardest, with a chance of more than 10 inches.

Lesser amounts of snow will be visible to the north and west of the city.

Gale and stormy conditions are possible in the waters from Sunday evening to Monday evening.

Beware of strong gusts in the city and on the coast as the winds increase to 40-50 mph Monday through Monday evening.

Coastal flood monitoring is in effect for Long Island and southern Queens Monday through Monday evening.

AccuWeather follows the system running across the country. Forecast models show an increasing threat to a significant prolonged coastal storm system.
