INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Here’s a look at some of Wednesday’s business headlines.

Retirement

Americans say it’s increasingly unlikely they will work into their 60s, new data from the New York Federal Reserve shows.

The share of respondents planning to work after age 62 fell to 50.1% in the New York Fed’s labor market survey in July – the lowest on record in a study conducted since 2014.

More than one million older workers have left the workforce since March 2020. Some Americans have rethought their priorities after the COVID-19 trauma – with a bigger nest egg to fall back on, thanks to a rising stock market. Withdrawal may be involuntary, motivated by a lack of employment prospects.

Cummins

Cummins has pushed back plans to fully reopen offices as COVID-19 cases increase across the country, including in Columbus.

Cummins officials said the company has pushed back its return-to-office date to early next year, but will continue a voluntary pilot program for vaccinated employees at its headquarters in downtown Columbus.

Econ club

The Economic Club of Indiana will kick off its new season of speakers on Wednesday designed to deepen discussion of social and economic issues.

The organization is returning to its tradition of hosting in-person lunches in downtown Indianapolis after going virtual last year due to the pandemic.

The first luncheon will feature journalist and author Clarence Page. Other speakers this season include Senator Todd Young and Eli Lilly CEO Dave Ricks.

Kroger

Kroger’s shares hit an all-time high last week after a rival posted strong results.

Sometimes if a rival is successful it is good for the whole industry.

Kroger announces its results on Friday.

Kroger’s shares have jumped over 45% so far this year.
