The beauty of Burrow’s fourth down
Cincinnati nearly lost a 14-point lead as they played host to the Vikings, roaring Minnesota to send Sunday’s opener into overtime. After failed practices on both sides, Joe Burrow threw a nice float at Drew Sample in fourth place and a few inches from midfield, with just a minute to go, setting up rookie Evan McPherson’s game-winning goal.
Goff’s two-point clutch
The Lions trailed the 49ers 41-17 in the fourth quarter, coming back in force in the final minutes. San Francisco held on for the win, but Jared Goff’s precise two-point throw at Quintez Cephus reduced the game to eight in the last minute.
Steelers Scoop and Score
The Steelers sniff upset in Buffalo. That stuck punt turned into a scoop-and-score gave Pittsburgh a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter.
Zach Wilson’s first pitch in the NFL TD
Wilson’s pro debut wasn’t a memorable one, but he eventually landed his first NFL touchdown in the third quarter – connecting with his new No.1 receiver at Corey Davis.
Kyler Murray’s crazy third pass on touchdown
He is a candidate for the throw of the week. Murray is playing in Nashville this Sunday and his third touchdown pass was pretty amazing. On his back foot, passing out, 26 meters into the bucket. It’s backyard football over there.
Tee Higgins breaking his ankles
What about these Bengals? They currently have the lead against the Vikings and that is thanks to their passing attack. Much of the praise will be given to rookie Ja’Marr Chase, but don’t forget Tee Higgins. He’s a rising star in this league, and also a great road racer. Look how much separation he’s had on this room.
Terry McLaurin, Catch of the Year nominee
It’s Taylor Heinicke at quarterback after Ryan Fitzpatrick left with a right hip injury, and he’s got that Washington attack on the move. Check out this incredible take from Terry McLaurin. Make sure to look at the second corner of this room as well. If that doesn’t prove McLaurin is one of the best receivers in the NFL, I don’t know what does.
Chase struggled with the drops during the preseason, but we all knew that LSU connection between him and Burrow was going to be dynamic. It manifested itself in the second quarter, as Chase netted his first score – a 50-yard touchdown to put the Bengals ahead just before half-time.
He leads Cincy in receptions at the half-time break, with three catches for 80 yards and one score.
Kyler Murray is one of the most electric playmakers in the NFL, even though he doesn’t have a winning record as a starter. That could change in 2021, as he and the Cards dominated the Titans. Check out this game, as he goes back and forth in the backfield before finding his receiver at the back of the field.
Wilson-Lockett x2
Wilson and Lockett connected for their second long touchdown of the game just before halftime – this one for 69 yards. There is nothing the Colts can do to stop the long ball, and their defensive backs nodded. Lockett caught three passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.
The 49ers’ choice
The 49ers blew him up in Detroit. After JaMycal Hasty hit him three yards for an 11-point lead, Dr. Greenlaw recorded a 39-yard pick six a few plays later!
There is a defensive clash in Buffalo, which is great if you’re the Steelers. Earlier this week, the Steelers made TJ Watt the highest-paid defenseman with a whopping $ 112 million stretch, and he rewarded them with a strip-sack in the second quarter.
Trevor Lawrence throws his first NFL TD pass
Things didn’t go incredibly well for the Jaguars in Week 1 against the Texans, but No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence threw his first NFL touchdown in the second quarter. He just warmed up.
Trey Sermon was an inactive surprise for the 49ers, then Raheem Mostert injured his knee in the first half. This apparently didn’t bother Kyle Shanahan too much, as he has another rookie in Elijah Mitchell who looks sharp. He rushed for 38 yards in the second quarter to regain the lead from San Francisco.
Chandler Jones has three sacks in the first quarter
The boo birds had come out early in Tennessee, as Arizona’s defensive front dominated early. Chandler Jones recorded three sacks in the first quarter as he dominated left tackle Taylor Lewan, who is coming out of a torn ACL.
Tyler Lockett and Russell Wilson have special chemistry. All Wilson has to do is throw him at him if he’s on single cover. Check out the grip on that 23-yard touchdown, what an adjustment! Perhaps the best part of this play was the celebration, as Lockett performed a full referee routine.
It’s early, but the Cardinals are rolling Nashville! After stripping Ryan Tannehill, the Cardinals were set up with an excellent field position. It took three sets to hit five yards, but Hopkins was third with a clutch catch.
We knew Jimmy Garoppolo would start this Sunday, but we also knew we would see the No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance at some point. When the 49ers entered the red zone in the first quarter, Lance entered the game and his first pass attempt resulted in a touchdown.
Garoppolo is the incumbent at the moment, but that only puts more pressure on him.
It was fair to expect Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith to have an immediate impact on the Eagles, but is it immediate? Smith’s first NFL catch was an 18-yard touchdown from former college teammate Jalen Hurts! He’s a special player with special speed.
First NFL touchdown on Sunday!
Justin Herbert and the Chargers face a tough test in the Washington defense, but they dominated in their first practice of the game. The second-year signalman ran the Chargers’ offense for 75 yards on the field in 10 games, and Austin Ekeler finished the run with a three-yard touchdown.
Ekeler has trained only once this week and has been called questionable due to a hamstring injury. He rushed for 14 yards on the first drive, however.

Isaiah McKenzie takes the opening kickoff 75 yards
Steelers at Bills is going to be a Week 1 game that everyone has their eyes on, and Buffalo has got off to a strong start at home. Isaiah McKenzie kicked off the opening 75 yards into enemy territory. Just listen to the roar of the crowd!
Three QB rookies for the start of week 1
Five quarterbacks were selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft five months ago, and today three of them will start. First overall pick Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars are the favorites in Houston despite Jacksonville only winning one game a year ago (as the Urban Meyer era begins amid discord). Zach Wilson, who has had the group’s most impressive preseason, will try to lift the Jets against Sam Darnold’s Panthers in Carolina. And Mac Jones is, of course, the surprise QB1 rookie for the Patriots after surprisingly cutting Cam Newton.
But those won’t be the only three rookie QBs to see the field. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports that Trey Lance will see playing time for the 49ers in Detroit as San Francisco look to move up to rookie. And while Justin Fields may not be playing for the Bears, it should be interesting to see what happens if Andy Dalton fights the Rams in the night game.
