The Jaguars could have played against a whole list of Pennywise clowns and it would not have been as nightmarish as what happened Sunday at the Big Chlorine Tank. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs racked up nearly 500 yards of Jacksonville's vaunted defense and Nick Foles had a broken collarbone a quarter of his debut in Jags. As Foles heads for the injured reserve (whether he comes back or not, it remains to be seen), it's fair to ask why the Jaguars did not have a better backup plan at the quarterback. Gardner Minshew played as well as he could have hoped for relief – in fact, he was damn great considering the circumstances – but it's hard to imagine the sixth-round rookie (or Josh Dobbs, recently acquired ), who would keep Jacksonville in the AFC South run. Sometimes it's do not too early to panic.

How the newcomer played: Minshew completed his first 13 passes – most by a rookie quarterback to start his career over the past 40 years, according to research from Sports Bureau Elias – en route for 275 yards and two touchdowns.
