We are almost a quarter of the regular season. Small samples will not be much longer and early-season quirks are on the verge of becoming trends. Some September trends have already been reversed (like a record number of detention penalties), some are here to stay (like Air Raid coaches, quarterbacks and concepts), and some we will discover this week: the Steelers n & # 39, have no win, the Broncos do not have bags and Eagles fans no shame. Let's look at the last games of September.
Crucial Divisional Matchups
New England Patriots (3-0) @ Buffalo Bills (3-0)
Time of the sending blow: 1 pm ET
Channel: CBS
Advertisers: Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts and Evan Washburn (sideline journalist)
Opening line: New England -6
On under: 44
Injuries and absences of the main patriots: Left tackle Isaiah Wynn (toe), offensive lineman Marshall Newhouse (sick), center David Andrews (blood clots), back side James Develin (neck)
Injuries and absences of key bills: Devin Singletary (hamstrings)
What to watch: If bills can take the lead of the East AFC
The Buffalo Bills could be the best team in East Africa if you open your heart, your mind and your soul. The Bills' defense has been elite through three games, placing in the top five points, yards allowed, and possession possession time. Unfortunately for the bills, the defense of the Patriots occupies the first place in all these categories. New England's defense has not given up on the touchdown since the AFC championship game (the Jets scored 14 points last week on a pick-six and a punt) and n & rsquo; Allowed only five successful conversions in third downhill in three games, by far the best mark in the league.
However, the teams that New England has beaten this season (the Steelers, Dolphins and Jets) have a combined total of 0-9. Believe it or not, the first test of the season for the Patriots is Josh Allen and the offense Bills. But they are well placed for the clash: the Pats are tied at the top of the league with the Jags, while Allen is tied for the lead of the fumbles.
Cleveland Browns (1-2) @ Baltimore Ravens (2-1)
Time of the sending blow: 1 pm ET
Channel: CBS
Advertisers: Greg Gumbel, Trent Green, Melanie Collins (key journalist)
Opening line: Baltimore -5
On under: 46.5
Injuries and absences in Browns: Tight end David Njoku (concussion / wrist), cornerback Denzel Ward (hamstring), half-angle Greedy Williams (hamstring), safety Morgan Burnett (quad), linebacker Christian Kirksey (at the chest), offensive tackle Kendall Lamm (knee)
Main wounds and absences of crows: Tight End Mark Andrews (foot), cornerback Jimmy Smith (knee)
What to watch: The fate of the North AFC
Despite the slow start of the Browns, if they win Sunday, they will be in first place in AFC North. If the Ravens win, they will stay in first place and can not let go. Considering that Baltimore's next two rivals are winless rivals Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, the Ravens could effectively complete the division by week 6 if they win their next three contests.
The key to Sunday's win for the Ravens will be training. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is at the forefront of data-informed decision-making, but his main task in this competition will be to manage a much less scientific statistic: turnarounds. Lamar Jackson has not had interceptions so far, but there have been many close calls. He could easily have been selected during one of his two prayers campaigning against Kansas City last week.
Whether Willie Snead, the receiver of the Ravens, answers this prayer or whether it is God, depends on you, but you can not have the habit of expecting to do it every Sunday.
Meanwhile, Cleveland head coach Freddie Kitchens seemed overwhelmed both from the macroeconomic point of view (he neutralized creativity in the Cleveland attack) and from the microeconomic point of view (he launched the fourth and the ninth last week). The kitchens need to go back to the pre-snap and quick-pass motion that was so effective last year. The first is a Kitchens player, but Baker Mayfield has been holding the ball for too long and has not trusted enough to protect his offensive line to put himself in the pocket.
The Ravens have not been pressed by the stellar passes this year and will have a hard time putting pressure on Mayfield if he throws quick passes. Mayfield can not wait to take a step forward any more than the Browns.
Minnesota Vikings (2-1) @ Chicago Bears (2-1)
Time of the sending blow: 4:25 ET
Channel: CBS
Advertisers: Jim Nantz, Tony Romo (with Boomer Esiason as alternate, more on this in a moment), Tracy Wolfson (sideline journalist)
Opening line: Chicago -3
On under: 39
Main injuries and absences of the Vikings: Guard Josh Kline (concussion), receiver Chad Beebe (ankle)
Injuries and absences in bears: Kicker Eddy Piñeiro (knee), receiver Taylor Gabriel (concussion), defensive forward Akiem Hicks (knee), lineman Kyle Long (hip)
What to watch: Kirk Cousins plays
NFC North is the most competitive division of football. He has a combined record of 9-3-1 and is the only group in which the four teams scored more points than they allowed. But that will not console the loser of this game, which will fall to the last place at 2-2.
The Vikings' star this season is Dalvin Cook, who leads the league with the most yards on the floor (125.0 per game) and yards per attempt (6.6). As Courtney Cronin of ESPN pointed out, Cook is the first Vikings to play three consecutive games of 100 rushing yards to start a season, and the Vikings are the only team in the league to record more yards ground by game (193.7) than passes. (164.7). But the Bears are grizzled in defense, and Minnesota will rely on Kirk Cousins to play on the action-game, the base of their passing game. The Vikings awarded Cousins a $ 84 million, three-year, guaranteed contract in 2018, in the hope that it would be the rising tide for the lifting of all Viking ships, but instead sank to the following all the others. This is a great opportunity for Cousins to change his reputation as a game manager. But Cousins is tied with Josh Allen (four) and Khalil Mack is tied before Josh Allen (three). Cousins could therefore become the scapegoat if he coughed.
Quarterback Bears Mitchell Trubisky is in a similar stalemate with his fans. He had an excellent finish line against Washington last week, but he struggles to produce unless Mack and Co. can give him turnovers and a short stance. No matter if the Bears or Vikings lose, the fault can be put on the shoulders of the defeated quarterback.
The real star to watch in this game is Tony Romo. The CBS commentator needs to work on this game, but he may have missed it if he gets elected to the Safeway Open in Napa, California. Boomer Esiason is the next man to get up.
Potential shoots
Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) @ Detroit Lions (2-0-1)
Time of the sending blow: 1 pm ET
Channel: Fox
Advertisers: Kevin Burkhardt, Charles Davis, Pam Oliver (sideline journalist)
Opening line: Kansas City -6
On under: 53
Injuries and absences of key leaders: Receiver Tyreek Hill (shoulder), running back Damien Williams (knee), left forward Eric Fisher (groin)
Major Lions Injuries and Absences: Receiver Danny Amendola (chest), defensive tackle Mike Daniels (foot)
What to watch: Patrick Mahomes (duh)
Technically, it is a clash of undefeated teams. This is the first time the Lions have participated in such a match after the 3rd week since 1962, according to ESPN Stats & Info. In reality, the Lions had the cardinals equalized in the first week. This is the highest / lowest total of the week, perhaps because it is the first indoor match of the regular season of Patrick Mahomes' career.
Buccaneers of Tampa Bay (1-2) @ Los Angeles Rams (3-0)
Time of the sending blow: 16:05 ET
Channel: Fox
Advertisers: Chris Myers, Daryl Johnston, Laura Okmin (key journalist)
Opening line: Rams -9
On under: 50
Injuries and absences of the Rams principal: Defensive attack Michael Brockers (disease)
Injuries and absences of key Buccaneers: Receiver Chris Godwin (hip), Ryan Jensen (back), linebacker Devin White (knee)
What to watch: Shaq Barrett continues Jared Goff
The Rams' offensive line allowed 49 quarterbacks, by Pro Football Focus, tied with the Dolphins. Not surprisingly, Jared Goff and the Rams offensive have suffered from 6.4 yards per game in 2018 (second in the league) to 5.4 this season (22nd).
The Buccaneers will challenge Shaquil Barrett, who tied an NFL record with eight sacks of the season after three games. Barrett's 18-quarter pressure this year is tied for seventh, with Dante Fowler Jr. of Los Angeles and J.J. of Houston. Watt. Not bad for someone who has signed a one – year, $ 4 million contract this season off.
Carolina Panthers (1-2) at Houston Texans (2-1)
Time of the sending blow: 1 pm ET
Channel: Fox
Advertisers: Kenny Albert, Ronde Barber, Lindsay Czarniak (sideline journalist)
Opening line: Houston -4
On under: 46
Injuries and absences in the Panthers: Quarterback Cam Newton (foot), guard Trai Turner (ankle), defensive forward Kawann Short (shoulder), defensive forward Gerald McCoy (knee)
Main injuries and absences in Texans: Seantrel Henderson (disease)
What to watch: Kyle Allen against Deshaun Watson
Here is the top five overall ranking by smugglers in their first 25 career starts (minimum of 100 pass attempts).
- Patrick Mahomes (115.3)
- Kurt Warner (106.2)
- Dan Marino (105.1)
- Deshaun Watson (105.0)
- Dak Prescott (101.6)
Here is what happens when we lower this threshold to a minimum of 50 unsuccessful attempts.
- Kyle Allen (133.3)
- Patrick Mahomes (115.3)
- Kurt Warner (106.2)
- Dan Marino (105.1)
- Deshaun Watson (105.0)
Does it mean something? Yes. This means that even if this game would be sexier with Cam Newton against Deshaun Watson, it could still be fun with Kyle Allen. Watson, who was sacked 12 times this year (third among the quarterbacks), faces the Carolina defense, which has the same number (second among the defenses).
Seattle Seahawks (2-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (0-2-1)
Time of the sending blow: 16:05 ET
Channel: Fox
Advertisers: Dick Stockton, Mark Schlereth and Jennifer Hale (key journalist)
Opening line: Seattle -3
On under: 46
Major injuries and absences of the Seahawks: Midfielder Rashaad Penny (hamstring), tackle Duane Brown (biceps), defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson (hip), defensive back Ezekiel Ansah (back)
Main injuries and absences of cardinals: Cornerback Patrick Peterson (suspended), cornerback Robert Alford (leg), receiver Damiere Byrd (hamstring), scorer Andy Lee (hip),
What to watch: Outfielder Kyler Murray against the Russell Wilson short-stop
This game features Kyler Murray, who was designated to play off-field for the Oakland Athletics, but chose to play football, against Russell Wilson, whose favorite activity in the off-season is cosplay as a Yankee from New York. Whereas Murray was the no. 1 choice this year and Wilson, 30, said he wants to play until he is 45 years old. This could be the first of many meetings between these rivals of NFC West. Enjoy baseball comparisons as long as they are still fresh, as they will be listened to for a long time.
Games that would be more fashionable with a different starting quarter
Dallas Cowboys (3-0) @ Saints New Orleans (2-1)
Time of the sending blow: ET20:20
Channel: NBC
Advertisers: Al Michaels, Cree Collinsworth, Michele Tafoya (sideline journalist)
Opening line: Dallas -1.5
On under: 45
Main injuries and absences of Cowboys: Receiver Michael Gallup (knee), guard Zack Martin (back), defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford (hip)
Injuries and absences of the main saints: Quarterback Drew Brees (in), bettor Thomas Morstead (disease)
What to watch: The attraction of Dak Prescott
When these teams met last season, Dallas won 13-10 and limited Drew Brees to 127 passing yards in the 13th week.. It was that night that the Dallas defense was coming, and this match could well be the event for a Dallas offensive that was quietly comparable to that of Kansas City, Baltimore and New England for three weeks . The Cowboys rank among the top four in points, yards, yards per game, first tries, third try conversion percentage, percentage of red zone touchdown and training rate. The surprise is that Dak Prescott has developed Patrick Mahomes' effectiveness. Prescott ranks among the top two of nearly all leading indicators, including ESPN's total QBR, percentage completion above expectations (which explains the difficulty level of each pitch), and the number of yards adjusted per pass ( which includes bags, touchdowns and interceptions). Prescott, not half-off Ezekiel Elliott, is the straw that thrills the Dallas drink.
That said, the Cowboys have faced the Giants, Washington and the Dolphins, which are a combined 1-8 total and are the three worst team points allowed this year. Advanced metrics did not improve the defense of New Orleans, but they were much more talented and looked better with the naked eye. If Prescott can shred the saints on Sunday evening football Like its smaller competitors the first weeks of the season, the Cowboys become the best dog in the NFC and Prescott will send Jerry Jones a big demand for Venmo.
Washington (0-3) @ New York Giants (1-2)
Time of the sending blow: 1 pm ET
Channel: Fox
Advertisers: Thom Brennaman, Chris Spielman, Shannon Spake (sideline journalist)
Opening line: Giants -2,5
On under: 46
Main wounds and absences in Washington: Keenum quarterback affair (foot), Jordan Reed tight end (concussion), guard Brandon Scherff (ankle)
Main wounds and absences of giants: Offensive back Saquon Barkley (ankle), linebacker Alec Ogletree (hamstring), receiver Russell Shepard (foot), receiver Bennie Fowler (hamstring)
What to watch: Daniel Jones (but not Dwayne Haskins)
Dwayne Haskins, a Giants supporter born in Ohio, told Duke, Daniel Jones, in the April draft. Haskins landed in rival Washington Division instead. His first start in the Meadowlands against Jones and the Giants would be a film, but Washington head coach Jay Gruden intends to stay with his current quarterback at the moment. An injury to the foot of the Keenum affair complicated the decision, but Keenum fully exercised Thursday, after sitting on Wednesday.
We probably will not get Haskins against Jones, so we'll have to deal with Jones' emanations from Tampa Bay and the bad blood between the Washington side and Giants GM Dave Gettleman. When Gettleman led the Panthers in 2016, he shocked the franchise's scoring for cornerback Josh Norman after Norman was named the All-Pro First Team. Gettleman did not even bother Landon Collins, head of giants' security at the beginning of the year, and would not even have offered him a contract. Both players took each of their situations personally. Gettleman may be the only person with whom Josh Norman has a bigger ox than Odell Beckham Jr. Do not be shocked if he or Collins "accidentally"Gettleman hits the sidelines during pre-game warm-ups.
For fantastic purposes only
Titans of Tennessee (1-2) @ Atlanta Falcons (1-2)
Time of the sending blow: 1 pm ET
Channel: CBS
Advertisers: Spero Dedes, Adam Archuleta, A.J. Ross (key journalist)
Opening line: Atlanta -3.5
On under: 46.5
Main injuries and absences of the Titans: Left Attack Taylor Lewan (suspension), tight end Delanie Walker (knee)
Major injuries and absences in Falcons: Security Keanu Neal (Achilles), Guard Chris Lindstrom (foot)
What to watch: Who loses his job
This is an important match for each of these 1-2 teams. Since the NFL had a 16-game season in 1978, 12% of the 1 to 3 teams have played in the playoffs, while 39% of the 2 to 2 teams have played in the playoffs. The winner will return to the heart of the division race, while the loser will likely start replacing a key organizational personality. A defeat in Atlanta would put head coach Dan Quinn on the shortlist for being fired before the end of the season. After a defeat in Tennessee, Ryan Tannehill could start earlier than expected, while Marcus Mariota, who is in a contract year, heads for the bench.
Oakland Raiders (1-2) @ Indianapolis Colts (2-1)
Time of the sending blow: 1 pm ET
Channel: CBS
Advertisers: Kevin Harlan, Rich Gannon (former striker), John Schriffen (key journalist)
Opening line: Indianapolis -6.5
On under: 44
Main injuries and absences of Raiders: Gabe Jackson Guard (knee)
Injuries and absences of key foals: Receiver T.Y. Hilton (quad), linebacker Darius Leonard (concussion), security Malik Hooker (knee)
What to watch: Short passage
Your instinct is correct that this game does not seem exciting. Jacoby Brissett's passes cover an average length of 5.6 meters, which is the 35th position out of 37 skilled runners. Oakland's Derek Carr ranks 32nd, even though this number hides the conservatism of the Raiders. Two of the smugglers behind Carr, Luke Falk in New York and Teddy Bridgewater in New Orleans, were not starting as part of the team in August. Mason Rudolph of Pittsburgh and Gardner Minshew II of Jacksonville were in front of him. These teams have defeated fast by necessity, while the Raiders do not take deep strokes by choice. Oakland has not taken a lot of shots this year, but Indianapolis is running without their best receiver and with two of their best defenders hindered and likely to miss the game.
Los Angeles Chargers (1-2) @ Miami Dolphins (0-3)
Time of the sending blow: 1 pm ET
Channel: CBS
Advertisers: Tom McCarthy, Jay Feely
Opening line: Chargers -16
On under: 45
Injuries and absences of the main loaders: Hunter Henry (knee fracture), Virgil Green (groin), receiver Mike Williams (back), receiver Travis Benjamin (hip), left forward Russell Okung (blood clots), safety Derwin James (foot), cornerback Casey Hayward Jr. (back), kicker Michael Badgley (groin)
Injuries and absences related to dolphins: Catcher Albert Wilson (hip / calf)
What to watch: Austin Ekeler's last solo tour
Chargers starting half-offensive Melvin Gordon announced that he would return to the team, which could end Ekeler's career. But Gordon will not play this week, giving Ekeler a last dance against the league's most exhausted defense.
Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2) @ Denver Broncos (0-3)
Time of the sending blow: 4:25 ET
Channel: CBS
Advertisers: Andrew Catalon, James Lofton (Analyst)
Opening line: Denver -3.5
On under: 38
Main injuries and absences in Jaguars: Cornerback Jalen Ramsey (exchange request / back / hamstring / flu / witnessing the birth of her child)
Injuries and key absences of the Broncos: Ja'Wuan James (knee), cornerback Bryce Callahan (foot), cornerback Kareem Jackson (hamstring)
What to watch: The bad history of Denver
The Broncos are the first team to have no bag or carry for three weeks, since the bags became a statistic in 1982. This is not a coincidence either. Denver is also last in the quarterback hits (three), one eighth of Jacksonville's total (24), which is tied for third in the championship. It's abominable for any team, but bewildering for a team that includes former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, and last year, no. 5 choices, Bradley Chubb, at the defensive end and is coached by Vic Fangio. If the Broncos do not register a bag this week against the Jaguars, they would be the first team to have never touched any bag in four games.
Monday night football
Cincinnati Bengals (0-3) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (0-3)
Time of the sending blow: 8:15 pm and Monday
Channel: ESPN
Advertisers: Joe Tessitore, Booger McFarland, Lisa Salters (key journalist)
Opening line: Pittsburgh -4.5
On under: 43.5
Major injuries and absences in Bengal: Recipient AJ Green (ankle), tight end Tyler Eifert (not tied to injury), tackle Cordy Glenn (concussion), Jonah Williams (shoulder), tackle Andre Smith (hamstring tendon), defensive end Carl Lawson (stretched tendon) ), Carlos Dunlap (tense cup), defensive end Kerry Wynn (concussion), defensive end Sam Hubbard (ankle)
Injuries and absences among key Steelers: Tight end Vance McDonald (shoulder), cornerback Joe Haden (shoulder), linebacker Vince Williams (hamstring)
What to watch: One of these teams wins
The Bengals had to be bad. The Steelers were not. Despite the seriousness of the situation in Cincinnati, it is ridiculous compared to the crisis that the Steelers fans will feel if they lose the game, lose the face in the AFC North and start at 0-4 for the second time in 50 years.
Bye teams: San Francisco 49ers (3-0), New York Jets (0-3)
