The first onlookers cheering on The Weeknd at small clubs in his hometown of Toronto are celebrating Thursday’s (November 12) announcement that he will headline the 2021 Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show.

That same week, Toronto’s Mod Club Theater, which hosted its very first concert in 2011, closed its doors for good, with The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) revealing they were heading to one of the most great scenes from America.

“We all grow up watching the world’s greatest artists play the Super Bowl and we can only dream of being in that position,” The Weeknd said in a statement. “I am honored, honored and thrilled to be at the center of this infamous scene this year.”
