Weezer today released the first single from his upcoming album, OK Human. The “All My Favorite Songs” music video features a surprising number of Google Pixel 5 devices in what is presumably a promotion.
The first frame of the video is Rivers Cuomo sliding on a Sorta Sage Pixel 5. A band member finally asks her to stop and start filming “All My Favorite Songs”. “Ok Google, record video” starts up, with the latest Google Camera app clearly visible. Opening Times also features the new Google Assistant and Pixel Launcher with custom wallpaper.
About two minutes after the video began, the Pixel 5 makes another appearance in a pseudo-AR moment. Once again, the back of the flagship Made by Google is very clearly highlighted, right down to the shiny “G” logo on the back.
Towards the end, all of Weezer’s members are shown holding the phone while playing distractedly. This scene contains at least six Pixel phones. This technology hooked pattern comes as the upcoming album, available Jan. 29, is “made by a handful of humans using only analog technology (including a 38-piece orchestra) for all of you humans to consume.”
OK Human was created at a time when instruments for human play were a thing of the past. All we could do was go back to the old days when humans really mattered and the dark tech takeover fantasy didn’t exist.
We used our instruments to connect to the 1960s and 1970s and, with the orchestra, to the 18th and 19th centuries. We had no click track, loops, or hi-tech sounds. Not even an electric guitar.
It is not clear if Google was involved in providing the Pixel 5 devices seen in this new Weezer music video. There is no mention of the company’s involvement in the end credits or YouTube description.
This follows the Google Photos parody of “Photograph” from Nickelback, an official collaboration released last year, and there was of course the moment a Pixel 3 appeared. Avengers: Endgame.
