Weis Markets in-store pharmacies to start administering COVID-19 vaccines

Weis Markets announced that it will begin administering COVID-19 vaccines at 55 of its in-store pharmacies across Pennsylvania starting Thursday.

According to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Pennsylvania Health Department, staff at the Weis Pharmacy will prioritize people 65 and older for COVID-19 vaccinations, per press release.

Weis Pharmacies will also prioritize COVID-19 vaccinations for people aged 16 to 64 with high-risk illnesses including cancer, chronic kidney disease, smoking, COPD, heart disease, syndrome. Down, obesity and diabetes, the release said, adding:

To receive the vaccine, customers must make an appointment with a Weis Certified Immunizer at: https://www.weismarkets.com/pharmacy-services. Registration for appointments is available one day before vaccination and a face mask is required. To ensure the vaccine’s efficacy, Weis pharmacies will schedule customers for a second vaccination four weeks after their first injection.

“Our pharmacies have received a limited amount of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and will start vaccinating on Thursday. In accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Health guidelines, we prioritize people 65 years of age or older and those with high-risk conditions for immunization appointments, ”said Rick Seipp, vice president of the Weis Markets pharmacy. “Over time, we hope to expand to other priority categories as the vaccine becomes more available and in coordination with Commonwealth guidelines.
