Daytime TV host Wendy Williams revealed she tested positive for a groundbreaking case of COVID-19 just days after she was spotted appearing unhealthy and wearing hospital socks outside her apartment in New York.
Williams, 57, said she would continue with health assessments and in order to give her time to quarantine and recover.
This means the Wendy Williams Show will delay the start of its 13th season until October 4, according to the show’s official Instagram account.

Williams had previously announced that she would be off the show until September 20 before learning she had contracted COVID-19.
The last time Wendy appeared on her show was July 16.
Exclusive photos from DailyMail.com showed the TV host stepping out of a black SUV on Friday wearing a gold and cream gown and what looked like hospital socks as she walked the wet sidewalk.
Williams, 57, wore a black mask as she was driven from the car to her home by her manager Bernie Young. His son Kevin Hunter Jr, 21, was also seen entering his apartment building behind a wheelchair and then caught an Uber to leave the house.
Williams is among the small percentage of vaccinated Americans who have had breakthrough cases of COVID-19.
Wendy was last seen on her show on July 16, 2021. Her team has announced that she will return on October 14 to begin the show’s 13th season.
Americans who have received two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine or one injection of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have a less than one in 13,000 chance of a severe case of a breakthrough, according to a DailyMail.com analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
More than 99% of hospitalizations and deaths from Covid in the United States since January 2021 have occurred in unvaccinated people.
Patients who require hospital care because of a breakthrough case are likely to be older or have underlying medical conditions, CDC data suggests.
Last year it was announced that she would take a hiatus from her daytime talk show as she battles health issues related to her diagnosis of Graves’ disease.
Graves’ disease is an immune system disorder of the thyroid gland that causes anxiety, tremors, and swollen or bulging eyes.
Wendy first worried audiences in October 2017 when she collapsed on camera while recording her talk show.
She spoke to her audience about her diagnosis of Graves’ disease in early 2018.
“My thyroid has been totally cattywampus. I have the impression that there are birds swimming around my head… Constantly high. But not high, she said. “My doctor prescribed me – are you ready? Three weeks of vacation. I was angry. More performances, really? ‘
The past few years have been tumultuous for Wendy, who revealed that she had been diagnosed with Graves’ disease and lymphedema.
Wendy also revealed that she was diagnosed with lymphedema in 2019.
“It’s not going to kill me, but I have a machine – and how dare you talk about it all,” she said on her show. ‘I have it under control, what if [the swelling in] my feet and my lower objects never descend to the end, at least I have this machine.
In 2018, Wendy spoke to PEOPLE about the immune system disorder.
“I feel a hundred percent better than a few months ago. I had a storm in my body is the best way to explain it, ”she said at the time.
“It came about because I skipped my six month endocrinology appointment. I have Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism. If you have one you don’t necessarily have to have the other, but I have both and was diagnosed with both 19 years ago, ”said Wendy.
More than 177 million Americans have been fully immunized as of September 9.
That number includes about 63 percent of all eligible Americans (over 12), 65 percent of adults, and 82 percent of seniors.
The Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J vaccines have all been shown to be incredibly effective in protecting against severe Covid disease – both in clinical trials and in the real world.
As a result, the vast majority of Covid patients filling emergency rooms and intensive care units across the country are not vaccinated.
Of those with severe breakthrough cases, 10,471 had been hospitalized – although about 2,400 of those hospitalizations were asymptomatic or unrelated to Covid.
Likewise, 2,437 Americans have died after contracting a breakthrough infection – but about 500 of those deaths were asymptomatic or not directly caused by COVID-19.
In total, about 1.7 million Americans have been hospitalized with the virus since Jan. 1, 2021 and 281,000 have died, according to federal data.
This means that, for both hospitalizations and deaths, more than 99% of people affected by COVID-19 in 2021 have not been vaccinated.
