Brian Hoyer and Jacoby Brissett will become more familiar with this season.
But the two former New England patriots and now the Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks got to know each other during the off season, not knowing they would soon become teammates.
Hoyer and Brissett apparently shared a room together on their trip to Churchill Downs to attend the Kentucky Derby with Tom Brady and Co.
When news of Andrew Luck's retirement was announced, Hoyer told reporters that he had sent Brissett an SMS, wishing him good luck.
"I said," Hey man, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for, good luck. " I did not know that three weeks later I would be there.
Of course, Hoyer ended up signing a two-year contract with the Colts to be Brissett's replacement after being released by the Patriots in their last round of cuts.
Brissett spent his rookie year in New England before being traded to Indianapolis just before the 2017 season. Hoyer, who had started his career as a Patriots rookie in 2009, returned to Foxboro two months later after that the team traded Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers of San Francisco.
Hoyer was Brady's first substitute during the second half of the 2017 season and until 2018. The Colts will be his eighth NFL team after two passes with the Patriots and one with the Cardinals of Pittsburgh, Arizona, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears and 49ers.
