What can MacOS Catalina tell us about the next MacBook Pro?

Apple's latest operating system for Mac, macOS Catalina, is not only exciting for current Mac computer owners – it might contain big clues for the next big one Macbook Pro.

With macOS Catalina, the iPad becomes a trusted companion to the Mac with the Sidecar function, which is aptly named. This allows the iPad to become not only a secondary display for the Mac, but also allow Apple Pencil to enter macOS via a list of supported applications.

This seems to be a clear indication of how much Apple is considering taking its next MacBook Pro – and all of its Macs in general, really. It is easy to anticipate this type of functionality by expanding access to the system in the next version of macOS, with the Pencil entry extending beyond the few applications it now supports.

Similarly, we could easily see the iPhone benefit from similar access to macOS via Sidecar, for example as a smaller secondary screen or as an additional input method. Using this feature, the iPhone could even become a macOS game controller for different iPad games destined for macOS ports in the coming years. Whatever it is, we expect that Apple will double its MacBook Pro as a hub for its mobile devices, taking full advantage of their touch features.
