CLEVELAND, Ohio – Fans should know a few things before the Cleveland Browns host the Houston Texans in the home opener at FirstEnergy Stadium today, Sunday, September 19.
After the 2020 season and the state’s Covid restrictions limiting fans in the stadium, things will be a little different downtown on match days.
The stadium has almost 70,000 seats, and other fans will be heading downtown to their favorite water spots, so the city center tends to get a bit crowded.
The team announced a series of match day initiatives that cover entry, health, tickets and other initiatives. Here are five things to know:
Towards the city center
• Fans are encouraged to leave early to avoid traffic problems and road closures, which begin 90 minutes before kick-off. After the closures come into effect, parking pass holders must access the stadium via North Marginal Road from East 55th Street (Exit 175 off Interstate 90). Through the Browns mobile app, fans can access WAZE to determine the best routes to downtown and parking lots. Note: Most Browns home games start at 1:00 p.m.
• Fans can reserve parking spaces per game or per season in garages and car parks through Parkmobile.
• RTA service on the Waterfront Line has been suspended due to safety concerns related to the Waterfront Line Bridge. Fans taking the red, green or blue lines to Tower City are encouraged to walk north on West 3rd Street to the stadium. It’s about a 15 minute walk.
Tickets
• Most of the home program is sold out, but Browns fans can purchase single game tickets for a limited number of games. Implemented in 2019, all home game tickets and parking passes will be accessible through the Browns mobile app. All participants must download the app for secure mobile ticketing.
• Before match day, access and add tickets to Apple Wallet or Google Pay, or to transfer tickets. Note: Depending on security settings, phones must be password, touchID, or FaceID protected to use Apple Wallet or Google Pay.
• No paper or printed PDF tickets are available, and screenshots are not accepted. Fans can use free express access to the stadium using contactless facial recognition technology. (Go to the Browns website or mobile app for information on how to register for the program and avoid the lines at the gates.)
• The stadium will have an enlarged perimeter, which will create an exterior hall. This creates an outdoor space considered part of the stadium to reduce congestion. It allows faster access to escalators and amenities throughout the exterior lobby.

Health and security
The stadium is not subject to a Covid mask warrant or a vaccination requirement. But the Browns are strongly encouraging everyone, regardless of their immunization status, to wear masks in indoor spaces like the Main Lobby, the Browns Pro Shop, elevators and clubs. It is strongly recommended that unvaccinated fans wear masks at all times, unless actively eating or drinking. Hand sanitizer will be spread throughout the stadium.
Baggage policy
The NFL Clear Bag Policy is in effect. Bags are not recommended, but each fan is allowed a clear plastic bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or a small hand-sized pouch. If fans cannot return to their vehicles, they can take bags that do not meet the requirements of a downtown Cleveland Alliance bag check, located on the southwest and northeast sides of the stadium. Check in your luggage up to 60 minutes after kick-off with a $ 10 contribution to DCA. For more details, visit www.NFL.com/allclear.
Dawg Pound Drive
Dawg Pound Drive returns to Alfred Lerner Way. The 900-foot free space near the south gates of the stadium offers a pre-game area open three hours before kick-off. It features photo ops, live music, DJs, food and drink specials, inflatables and more.
