What coaches does Robert Saleh take with him to New York?

The 49ers have just taken the biggest blow to their coaching staff they’re going to take this offseason, but that doesn’t mean they took their last. Reports of Mike LaFleur leaving with Saleh surfaced almost simultaneously with the announcement of Saleh’s deal with the Jets, but could there be other names making the jump? Kyle Posey and I discussed Saleh’s departure from every angle possible on today’s Niners Nation podcast.

“I guess we didn’t see the end,” Kyle said, “I just don’t feel like that. He has to fill a bunch of assistants. Not just coordinator positions, it has to fill a full staff. So to think that he will only take one coach from the staff is a bit naive. And again, he’s probably been in talks with Lynch and Kyle about this for over months now.

It still surprises me that the 49ers lost more coaches after a 6-10 season than after going to the Super Bowl, but here we are.

In my mind, the biggest loss would be defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, who has transformed the 49ers’ D-line since joining. It’s no coincidence that they improved by 11 sacks in 2019 once he got the gig. See also Hyder, Kerry’s performance this year. Again, in my opinion, due to Kocurek.
