Dean Pees is coming out of retirement to join the Falcons staff as defensive coordinator. In his first meeting with the Atlanta media today, he said he was coming back because he missed the game, but more importantly, because of Arthur Smith – who he loved working with in Tennessee .
Pees then gave a brief description of what Falcons fans can expect from his defense. When asked if they would move up to a 3-4, he replied that his defense would give several looks.

If you read our own Alex Lord analysis of Dean Pees’ plan, you know it is. Pees will give the offenses a plethora of looks in an attempt to confuse the quarterback, like this one against the Cleveland Browns.
I can’t stop laughing at the brilliance of this defensive plan. #Titans rush 4 – one of which is a turn, Jayon Brown comes back into cover, and Wake destroys the edge. Browns all kinds of confused. Dean Pees, you savage. pic.twitter.com/ihbBGZwLrD

Something else stands out in this room; Pees loves to blitz and he loves to disguise his blitz, sending men from all directions, something Falcons fans should expect in 2021. Anyone on the pitch will be able to come past the quarterback. Pees wants to force opponents to be responsible for every player.

We won’t know until the start of the season how effective Pees can be with the Falcons staff. However, at the very least, we know it will make up some crazy ass play that will be fun to watch every Sunday.
