NEWTON, Iowa – Half an hour earlier, Ross Chastain was breaking a watermelon in the Victory Corridor, triumphant and at the top of the world. Another Cinderella moment for one of NASCAR's favorite outsiders and he was enjoying every second of it, happy to treat everyone with a summary of his feat.

The euphoria has proved transient. The Chevrolet Silverado Chastain had won Sunday's victory over Iowa Speedway without passing the technical inspection after the race. And now, Chastain was running out of words.

"I have nothing to say, sorry," Chastain told The Athletic.

After learning that his winning truck had not been tested yet, Chastain witnessed the stomach punch alongside several Niece Motorsports crew members. When it was learned that NASCAR had won the victory for falling below the required driving height, a mixture of disbelief and shock was hanging in the air.
