What happened to Facebook? Massive Disconnection Kicks Users From Social Media Platform

The internet was abuzz over the mysterious disruption of the social media platform Facebook, as users reported their calendars were freezing and being forced to reconnect.

It started Friday night, according to downdetector.com, a website and app monitoring service.

On Saturday morning, it appeared that the problem had been resolved.

“We are reviewing reports that some people are currently required to sign in to access their Facebook accounts,” the company said in a statement. “We believe this was due to a configuration change and we are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”

The mass disconnect was quickly followed by user memes, as well as a few conspiracy theories.

As users returned to the social giant, Sen. Bernie Sanders was quick to make an appearance as people wondered what exactly had happened. Sanders’ memes continued to evolve over the weekend and only seemed to gain popularity in part thanks to the disconnect.
