What happened to Facebook? Massive Disconnection Kicks Users From Social Media Platform

The internet was abuzz over the mysterious site outage, with users reporting that their calendars were frozen and they were being forced to reconnect.

It started around 9:30 p.m., according to downdetector.com, a website and app monitoring service.

At 1 a.m. on Saturday, it looked like the problem had been resolved.

“We are reviewing reports that some people are currently required to sign in to access their Facebook accounts,” the company said in a statement. “We believe this was due to a configuration change and we are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”

The mass disconnect was quickly followed by user memes, as well as a few conspiracy theories.

In a stroke of irony (or genius, depending on your perspective), Facebook posted a follow-up note on the outage on Twitter.
