What Meredith Grey’s COVID-19 Diagnosis Means on “ Grey’s Anatomy ”

As Grey’s Anatomy introduces the storyline inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic in the new season, one of the main characters ends up with the disease.

As the two-hour episode unfolded, fans saw medical staff at Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital become the virus’s frontline workers, putting themselves in danger to save others.

Meredith Gray, played by Ellen Pompeo, also became one of the people to contract the disease, as showrunner Krista Vernoff revealed.

Talk to Hollywood journalist, Vernoff said: “Last week we felt Meredith Grey’s pain as a doctor treating an early outbreak of COVID patients. This week, we start to experience what it is for her to be a COVID patient herself.

“More than 1,700 healthcare workers in the United States have died from COVID to date. Thousands more have been infected. Health care workers are on the front lines of this crisis, living a war for which they have not been trained, ”she continued.

“We saw an opportunity to dramatize and illuminate their plight through the incredibly beloved and well-known character of Meredith Gray,” she said, saying the decision was to show just how much professional jobs health became difficult during the pandemic.

“Doctors and nurses fight for us and fall in love with us,” she says.

“The least we can do is wear a mask, get away from it socially and stay home as much as possible. Meredith has a real fight ahead of her. And … she has this beach. Darkness and light. It’s a powerful season. Stay tuned, ”she added.
