CHICAGO: The Boston Red Sox won 108 games last season and all blitzers in a race in October to win their fourth World Series title in the 21st century. They did all this despite some weird holes on their performance grid. Ranked by WAR, their second base players in 2019 ranked 29th, the captors and the third worst player, finishing 30th.

It's a weird and wonderful thing for a team to be in the last two places at three different positions while qualifying for the championship. It's also a little misleading in some ways, but the bottom line is that, as good as the Red Sox, there was room for improvement. So far this season, the Boston catchers have managed to better rank in 16th place. Third baseman Rafael Devers showed a more consistent approach to the plate to help Sox reach 12th place. But the second base – where Dustin Pedroia continues to fight knee problems and where Eduardo Nunez has had health and performance problems – remains a sore point.
That brings us to Michael Chavis, the ruthless baseball player from Boston, who may well be the missing link in the Red Sox's comeback to the fight for first place.
