What the WWDC Call 2019 invites to tease on the next iOS and MacOS

Wednesday, Apple media invitations sent for the opening address at his annual convention 2019 World Developer Conference. The WWDC 2019 presentation will take place at 10 am on Monday, June 3rd in San Jose, California. The weeklong conference will probably show the upcoming versions of iOS 13 and the latest MacOS as well as reveal new materials.

If previous years are an indication, the WWDC invitation usually refers to a theme or initiative that Apple is likely to reveal. So, like Batman and Robin (the TV version of the 60s), I tried to solve the riddles of the invitation.

This year, there are five illustrated drawings each of one Animoji character: monkey, robot, skull, extraterrestrial and unicorn. Sorry, no koala or dragon. The work shows each character his animoji spirit literally blown with a puff of smoke throwing emojis, coding symbols and icons for items such as Fast and metal. There are even fragments of head and skull drawn in – ew.

A new Mac Pro … finally

The choice of the character of Animoji is curious but could enlighten us on the destiny of Apple. The drawing of the monkey includes icons representing a brush, musical notes and a camera, which allows to create a creative and playful atmosphere. In previous years, Apple has been criticized for its appearance lack of support from creative professionals.

Last year, Apple informed a handful of journalists that he was working on a major redesign and an update of the "trash". Mac Pro – one of the symbols of creative negligence of Apple. This update is supposed to be published in 2019. So, this monkey with a brush coming out of his head could signal that we will finally see a new Mac Pro 2019.

Apple Arcade and more games

The skull illustration includes a joystick and a bowling keel as debris. At the last event organized by Apple in March, the Arcade subscription game service has been announced for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Arcade will feature more than 100 new exclusive games from studios and developers around the world, including Annapurna Interactive, Lego, Sega, Cartoon Network, Konami, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Will Wright and Ken Wong. Despite the teaser, there were not many details like the price and the release date of the service. Maybe Apple will tell more to WWDC.

Marzipan dream of iOS and MacOS together

The robot and alien designs are two sides of the same coin. An icon representing an iOS calculator explodes from the robot's head and a MacOS launchpad icon jumping out of the alien's throat. These symbols could indicate the unification of the development of iOS and MacOS applications, what is called a unicorn OS – get it?

The photo of the unicorn also incorporates iOS and MacOS icons. At WWDC 2018, senior vice president Craig Federighi said that iOS and MacOS would not be merging into one operating system. But Apple has shown that its iOS News, Stocks, Voice Memos and Home applications are being transferred to MacOS. Apple could bring this multiplatform framework to third-party developers. Apple would have had a project codenamed Marizpan that would offer such a feature.

More Apple Pencil support and more Animojis

All illustrations seem drawn, which could indicate more features Apple Pencil. Could this mean a total support for using an Apple pencil on an iPhone XS Max at S-Pen on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9? Or is it a more literal indicator that you can draw your own Animojis? Just spitballin 'here. This probably indicates that more Animojis will come on your iPhone and iPad.

Goodbye, goodbye iTunes

The musical notes on the monkey's drawing are a MacOS Easter Egg that supports the rumor that Apple separates iTunes in favor of several small MacOS stand-alone applications, including one called Music.

The iPad receives support for the trackpad

Almost all drawings have a location or cursor arrow. The most ambitious rumor is that the iPad could finally have the support of the trackpad / mouse which would mean adding a slider of some kind. This would truly turn the iPad Pro and its crazy fast processor into a real replacement computer.

It is more likely that the icon is a location arrow that would support rumors of system upgrades. maps application that allows you to save important addresses.

New mute switch for iPhone or iOS rocker switch

Several WWDC drawings have an oval with a circle on the side. I immediately thought that it was the rocker switch iOS and this suggests perhaps more improvements in iOS notifications.

But my colleague Vanessa Hand Orellana pointed out that this could also be a reference to a new mute switch presumed on the next iPhone. Apple has not released a new iPhone to WWDC since the iPhone 4 and I would be doubtful if it came out one this year.

Dark mode

All drawings have an important common point. They have a dark background and light color illustrations. Last year, MacOS Mojave had a dark mode, but there are rumors that a similar mode could happen on iOS this year. (In the meantime, you can try these applications with dark mode settings.)
