HOPKINTON (CBS) – The 2019 Boston Marathon could look a lot like the 2018 marathon.
The good news – Linden is the first American to win two consecutive titles in 48 years.
The bad news is that it will rain on Monday, as last year, when runners were soaked in one of the wettest Boston marathons in recent history. However, it will be much warmer and humid this time and much of the rain should leave Hopkinton before 9am. After that, the overcast sky could dissipate and dissipate to leave some sun between the clouds.

Local Favorite Shalane Flanagan does not work this year. The four-time marathon runner and Marblehead native will be part of the WBZ-TV marathon broadcast crew.

The surprise finalist of last year will also be back. Join Linden on the 2019 American Elite Team: Sarah Sellerswho went through the rain to finish second in 2018, and Jordan Hasay, who was third in Boston in 2017 when she made the fastest US debut ever.
On the men's side, Shadrack Biwott returns after finishing third and fourth in his last two rounds in Boston. He is joined by a field that includes tons of Olympic successes, including Jared Ward, who finished sixth at the 2016 Olympic Marathon, three-time Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein, the third fastest American marathon runner of all time and four-time Olympian Abdi Abdirahman.
WHAT'S UP?
There are some changes to this year's race. There is no separate departure for people with reduced mobility. They will now start with their wave corral adapted to the weather.
Another novelty in 2019, the first wave of runners will start at 10:02, which will give the elite men their own start, just like the elite women. Elite riders are the only ones who can claim a prize money.

WHO TO WATCH
Linden is trying to become the first American woman to finish her first two consecutive years since Sara Mae Berman in 1971.

Yuki Kawauchi, the first Japanese to win Boston since 1987, is back to defend his title and his mother is also racing. Mika Kawauchi, 54, will be in the fourth wave.
Wheelchair Women Champion Tatyana McFadden Maryland will be looking for her sixth title in Boston.
Joan Benoit Samuelson is also back. She runs to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her first historic victory.
"My goal is to run in 40 minutes of my time 40 years ago, which would be less than 3:15:35," she said last month. "I could celebrate as well for an anniversary year, while I'm still capable!"
Five years after his historic victory at the Boston Marathon, Meb Keflezighi will be back as Grand Marshal this year. He will lead the pack again on the 26.2-mile course, but this time he climbs into an SUV.
RUNNERS OF CELEBRITY
NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson will participate in his first marathon Monday, two days after a NASCAR race in Richmond, Virginia.
cast Jared and Genevieve Padalecki, the husband and wife who play in Supernatural, run to raise money for Dream Big! which offers young girls the opportunity to play sports.
Former linebacker of the New England Patriots Tedy Bruschi his own team, the Tedy's team, who will educate people about stroke and heart disease and support survivors.
And WBZ-TV will have two riders in this year's race: Chief Meteorologist Eric Fisher and presenter reporter Katie Brace.

The Boston Athletic Association has developed a chart showing the optimal viewing times if you want to see one of the waves heading towards the many points of view of the course.
