Police have identified the 10 victims who died after a gunman embarked on a shootout at a crowded supermarket in Boulder, Colo. The victims included a 51-year-old man police officer who responded to the scene of the attack.
The 21-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Monday and has been charged with 10 counts of first degree murder. Police said the suspect was shot and hospitalized in stable condition.
President Joe Biden expanded his condolences to the families of the victims. “Ten lives have been lost and more families have been broken up by gun violence in the state of Colorado,” he said Tuesday.
Here’s what we know about the victims of the mass shooting:
Talley, an 11-year veteran of the Boulder Police Department, rushed to the scene of the grocery store shooting, where he was fatally shot.
Talley was a father of seven and loved his community, Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold told a news conference. Herold called his efforts in the shooting “heroic” and said, “He’s all the police deserve and need.”
Her sister, Kirstin, remembered her brother Twitter: “My heart is broken. I can’t explain how beautiful he was and what a devastating loss to so many people. Fly high, my sweet brother. You always wanted to be a pilot (damn color blind). Fly high.”

The 25-year-old’s death was confirmed by police and her aunt Lori, who remembered her niece on Facebook.
“Thank you all for all your prayers, but the Lord had a beautiful young angel yesterday…” she wrote in part. “We will publish details of his arrangements in the coming days.”
Her uncle, Robert Olds, said, “No one can replace Rikki and the happiness” she brought to her family’s life.
“Our family is suffering a great loss and we will cope together one day at a time,” he said in a statement. “On behalf of our family, thank you for honoring Rikki’s legacy and the light that she was in this world. Our hearts go out to the families of the other victims who are experiencing the same grief as us.”
On Tuesday, the Olds family commemorated her as a loving, hardworking person who was “truly one of a kind” and said “that she would embrace you and give you confidence to be the person you want to be.”
The statement said Olds was dedicated to her career at King Soopers and that she “strived to be the best manager she could be for her work family.”
Mahoney’s daughter Erika mourned her father on Twitter, saying he “stands for all that is love”.
“I’m so grateful that he was able to walk me down the aisle last summer,” she wrote on Tuesday. “I am now pregnant. I know he wants me to be strong for his granddaughter. I love you forever Daddy. You are always with me.”
Murray, a retired mother of two and an Instacart employee, was working when she was killed at the grocery store. The founder and CEO of the company, Apoorva Mehta, sent his condolences to Murray’s family.
“Violence of any kind has no place in our society, and our teams are working with law enforcement and the King Soopers team to help in any way we can,” Mehta said. “We reached out to the client’s family to offer our support and resources during this incredibly difficult time.”
Stong was paying for his lunch when the shooting broke out, his friend, Dean Schiller, told CBS News. Schiller was broadcasting live from inside the grocery store and had no idea his friend would be among the victims.
“He was a really smart kid,” Schiller said. “He was trying to be an airline pilot who wanted to be a commercial airline pilot – that was his dream.”

Tralona Bartkowiak’s cousin David had watched hours of reporting Monday night after learning her car was parked at the King Soopers in Boulder, Colorado. He later learned of his death from Bartkowiak’s mother.
As a child, David lived with Bartkowiak in Southern California, reports CBS Los Angeles. He said Bartkowiak, who was 19 years his senior, had helped him raise him.
“It’s really sad that she’s gone,” said David. “It’s amazing. She had the biggest heart. She’s the most loving person I’ve ever met in my life, and it’s so devastating.”
David said his cousin was a talented artist who moved to Colorado about 12 years ago to run the family’s clothing line.
“She was the backbone of this family,” he said. “She is the backbone of this business.”
