What's happening with the camera on Huawei's Mate X foldable? – BGR

When Huawei unveiled the Mate X foldable phone last week, he did not spend too much time on stage talking about the phone's camera. Instead, he showed the world how the camera application would work on a foldable screen, highlighting the fact that the same camera module would act both as a main camera and as a stand-alone camera. However, camera specifications were not revealed on the scene during the official announcement or my brief meeting during which I experienced some of the features of folding cell phones. The meeting managers have diverted the camera, but everything I've seen so far makes me wonder if the Mate X and P30 Pro will share the same multi-purpose camera setup.

Last year's P20 Pro made it clear to everyone that triple-lens devices would be one thing, and that other companies quickly followed suit. Samsung and Sony are the latest companies to have launched flagship phones with three cameras at the back, and HMD has come out with a penta-lens camera at MWC 2019.

The P30 Pro will likely bring additional improvements to the camera. Recent leaks suggest that the camera module may contain a fourth lens or additional sensors. The leak cases we saw look odd, with an extra cutout on the back of the one that would fit a triple-lens camera.

Huawei CEO Richard Yu was photographed in Spain with what seems to be a prototype of the P30 Pro:

When I asked if the Mate X had the same camera at Mate 20 Pro, Huawei officials told me they were not ready to make announcements. I then asked if the phone would have the same configuration as the P30 Pro, to which I got a similar answer. Nothing is decided yet. They would not even tell me if there is a sensor between the lowest lens of this camera module and the Leica logo. Here is what it looks like:

Now let's see the rendering of a Mate X press:

What really piqued my interest is another image of Mate X that Huawei showed on stage during the event. As you can see below, there is clearly something below this third lens and you will be able to see it better during the presentation section where they talk about the complete protection they have made for the Mate X Discover it:

Now let's zoom in:

This is the Mate X during the camera segment of the presentation. You may also know that there is a fourth sensor under the three cameras.

Maybe the Mate X will have a depth sensor, just like the other phones. Depth sensors seem to be the most popular thing for mobile cameras, a feature that allows you to take pictures with bokeh effects, but also to use 3D face recognition. Anyway, Huawei is not ready to say for the moment anything in the world about the specifications of the Mate X camera.
