The best choice
Big sky (ABC, 10 p.m., midseason premiere): We last got a new episode of David E. Kelley’s return to the comfy bosom of Network TV on December 15, but frankly, it feels a lot longer. (A lot has happened since! It’s like we’re all getting old in dog years!) So here’s a little reminder, thanks to LaToya Ferguson recap of the eventful mid-season finale. Trace the details found in, so proceed with caution if you haven’t taken a look at it yet:
“A Good Day To Die” does the one thing he really needed, which was to save the trio of girls. Again, this seems somewhat anti-climactic, as Cassie – who naturally saves – doesn’t even get visual confirmation from the girls in this scene. But at least the audience does, and they can finally breathe a sigh of relief over one aspect of the show. Two, if you count the death of Legarski. Because as talented as John Carroll Lynch and as unsettling as he is in this series, Montana State Trooper Rick Legarski is an overwhelming character. The show needed to kill him, especially to avoid (if he were to be arrested) using him as a crutch. (He may still appear in flashbacks, but it’s very different.)… He died because he just had to be “The Big Rick”, take the lead to do the “right” thing.
Maybe, now that you’re refreshed, you’re wondering why the title of this article is wondering what will happen to The Big Rick. But John Carroll Lynch confirmed that we’ll see more Legarski, presumably in flashbacks – but who knows! LaToya passed the baton to Allison Shoemaker, so look for her blanket tonight.
