WhatsApp for iOS adds cross-device compatibility for some beta users

Two weeks later WABetaInfo Found out that cross-device compatibility for WhatsApp is coming, the platform is now releasing version 2.21.150.11 with this feature enabled for some beta testers of the app.

According to the site, cross-device compatibility is being rolled out for more iOS beta testers, although some users may not yet be eligible.

When this feature becomes available to all users, users will be able to use WhatsApp on four different devices and a mobile phone, which means you will be able to use WhatsApp on the Mac even without your iPhone turned on or connected to the internet.

With cross-device compatibility, users can use WhatsApp Web, desktop version and portal without internet connection or the user’s primary phone.

This is probably how WhatsApp will finally release an iPad version, as it has been said for about three years now.

You can check if multi-device is enabled for your WhatsApp account by opening application settings> Linked devices; if you see a new line called multi-device, that means you can finally join the beta program!

WABetainfo also warns that this beta may not work well with cross-device compatibility at this time:

  • Pinned chats: They don’t sync immediately, so you have to manually search for them the first time in order to view them.
  • Live locations: They may not be visible on linked devices.
  • If you join the beta program on WhatsApp Business, your business name and labels cannot be changed from the web and desktop apps.
  • You cannot chat and call people with old version of WhatsApp on their phone, from web / desktop apps. Just tell them to update WhatsApp from Google Play Store or App Store.

Recently, in an interview with Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Will Cathcart, CEO of WhatsApp, they said that “it has been a big technical challenge to keep all your messages and content in sync. Fortunately, all users will be able to use this feature sooner rather than later.
