WhatsApp is testing different reading speeds on iOS and Android

If you’ve ever received a really long voicemail message on WhatsApp that you wish you could go a little faster, WhatsApp has apparently been listening to you.

The app would test different read speeds on iOS and Android, according to WABetaInfo. The point of sale spotted the feature in a new update in Apple’s TestFlight Beta Program and the Google Play beta program in the last days. According to WABetaInfo, three read speeds will be available on iOS and Android: 1.0x, 1.5x and 2.0x. The feature is currently under development and is not available to the general public.

In its report on the Android version, the outlet said that users could change the playback speed of a voicemail message by tapping the speed tag. You can check out screenshots of what the purported feature would look like below.

As with other developments, it is not clear that this one will ever reach the general public. There is no set release date.

Now, I don’t know about all of you, but I’m having enough trouble listening to my friends’ long voicemail messages as they are. Often times, some friends who like voicemail messages send me four, five, and even 15 minute messages. By the time I finish listening, it is sometimes difficult to remember the multiple topics they mentioned. For your information, a good tip is to reply by SMS in WhatsApp while you are listening so that you don’t forget all the details of the voicemail message.

That’s not to say that I judge people who send long voicemails. I can’t, because I do too. In fact, I sometimes joke with my best friends (who are the only ones on this Earth who want to listen to a 12 minute voicemail message from me) saying that I don’t send them voicemails, I send them podcasts. For those who will inevitably wonder why I’m not just calling my friends, it’s a time zone issue.

So what do I think of when I see the idea of ​​WhatsApp for new reading speeds? I mean, I’m not going to say it’s a bad idea. There will surely be people who will find it useful if it ever gets published. But if I get lost listening to long voicemail messages at normal reading speed, I can’t even imagine what it will be like if I increase that speed. And like, well, I don’t know if I would laugh or be annoyed if my friends increased the reading speed of my messages (although I wouldn’t blame them, my messages are too long).
