WhatsApp is rolling out a new reachable calling feature that will allow you to switch to group calls after they start, the Facebook-owned company said on Monday. The new feature means you’ll be able to join a call with your friends and family when you’re ready, much like what you can do with a Zoom or Google Meet group call right now. Considering the massive popularity of WhatsApp, this could be a useful feature for many people who communicate through the messaging service.
You can get an idea of how the interface for making calls works in the image below. It looks like you’ll just have to press a connect button.
There’s also a new Call Info screen so you can see who’s currently on a call and who’s invited but hasn’t joined yet. Reachable calls will always be end-to-end encrypted.
