Fans of the long-running “Wheel of Fortune” didn’t mince their words about a 2016 rule that cost a contestant a chance to make big bucks on Wednesday night.
David Pederson correctly answered, “Soul, Flounder, Cod and Catfish,” but host Pat Sajak turned it down because of the word “and,” which is not allowed in crossword format, Yahoo reported. Entertainment.
Crosswords are a categorical list that is often four words long, but candidates are not allowed to say “and” before the last word – a picky rule that overruled correct answers before.
“No sorry. That’s not true,” Sajak told Pederson after uttering the conjunction no-no.
Another contestant then solved the puzzle by providing the same list, this time without the forbidden word.
The technicality sparked a wave of angry comments on social media.
