Hearties, there is finally an end in sight.
At some point during When the heart calls you season 8, Elizabeth will end her love triangle with Nathan and Lucas. Take Erin Krakow, the actress who plays Elizabeth, word for it: “She’s making a choice. It’s about time,” she said in an interview with Insider TV.
As Elizabeth shuttled back and forth between her two suitors over the past two seasons, viewers passionately asked her to end her “shameful behavior.” Understandably, many Hearties are tired of the #TeamNathan and #TeamLucas drama – but more than anything, they just want to see Elizabeth find love again after experiencing heartbreak a few years ago.
“It was just a real struggle for Elizabeth to get to the point that she might even have the idea of finding love again, so there was this obstacle to overcome,” Krakow explained to Insider TV. “Then I was just trying to figure out which guy had really set her heart on fire, who was going to make her feel that great love again.”
Krakow, who has previously mentioned that the move won’t happen until later in Season 8, reassures fans that this new relationship will not replace Jack and Elizabeth’s love story. “We’re trying to create something different. It was really important to us that whoever chooses Elizabeth, who she ends up with, isn’t just the next guy in her life, it’s another great love for her,” she continued.
Since there was no clue on who Elizabeth is going to pick in the end (Lucas? Nathan? Anyone New?), Fans took to social media to share their own theories.
One Reddit user points out that Lucas helped Elizabeth secure a book publishing deal at the end of last season, which Jack encouraged her to do in the first place. Not only could it bring them closer, but it could also be a reminder that Lucas supports his dreams like Jack did. “She’s fulfilling her dream of becoming a published author, in part because Lucas encouraged her and made it possible to publish her book. It’s something that Jack has also helped her with and now it’s happening,” they wrote.
Another fan seems to think the Janette Oke series of books, which inspired the hit show Hallmark, might contain the answer. “I really, really * really * want Elizabeth to be with Lucas, but I also realize the book made her marry a Mountie,” they commented on Reddit. But if the show was really following the books, then Elizabeth and Jack would have had two kids instead of one, so that might not necessarily be a good indicator of what’s to come.
This same fan seems to think that Elizabeth will choose Lucas and Nathan will lay eyes on someone else in Hope Valley. “I also want to see Nathan reunite with Fiona, especially since Kevin McGarry [plays Nathan] looked at Kayla Wallace [plays Fiona] during the scene at the station in season 7, ”they continued.
Maybe it all comes down to fear in the Season 7 finale when Elizabeth feared Nathan had been shot. “I think the end will be that his heart can’t stand being with another Mountie [Nathan] even though she has feelings for him. He’ll handle it well and say he’ll always be there for her anyway, ”one fan wrote.
Fans may be leaning in one direction (#TeamLucas, FTW), but Hearties will have to be patient to see who turns Elizabeth’s heart on. Chances are your thoughts will change from episode to episode … much like Elizabeth’s.
