When Drax first met the Avengers, he gave them some hilarious new names

Drax has a very odd view of the world, which is reflected in the way he gave several Marvel heroes ridiculous variations on their superhero names.

The Guardians of the Galaxy have established that Drax the Destroyer has one of the most unique perspectives of any Marvel superhero, which is true in different incarnations of the character. The MCU states that the people of Drax are completely aware of and unaware of metaphors. In the comics, Drax was redesigned as being duller, which led to some admittedly hilarious moments.

At one point in his life, it was said that Drax was very simple-minded to the point that he could only understand things on a childish level. While this made it difficult for his teammates to get him to listen, it also gave Drax a weirdly high level of creativity… especially when it came to naming people.

During the Infinity Crusade saga, for example, Drax was not on very good terms with most Marvel superheroes given that he was part of the Infinity Watch, a team created to protect the Infinity Stones. Since others (like Thanos) had abused Stones in the past, many heroes were suspicious of the Infinity Watch and viewed them as potential threats. Drax – who possessed the Power Stone – only compounded this PR problem when he firmly defeated the Hulk in a street fight, thanks to his vastly superior energy source.

However, the Avengers and Infinity Watch had to work together when the head of the Infinity Watch, Adam Warlock, accidentally created a great universal threat by allowing the goodness in him to manifest as the religious leader, the goddess, who brainwashed many Marvel heroes under the guise of promoting universal peace and harmony. As the remaining Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men teams gathered to plan a counterattack, the other members of Infinity Watch decided to support these heroes and teleported to their garrison.

A big hero fight erupted until Reed Richards managed to calm everyone down. Hilariously, Drax – who was rather simple-minded in this incarnation – was blissfully oblivious to the gravity of the situation and offered to introduce his team of superheroes to his “friends” the Avengers, despite the fact that he couldn’t get anything from their correct names. Drax introduced the Hulk as “Bulk”, Iron Man as “Iron Pan”, the X-Men member Havok as “Chaos” and Wolverine as “The Badger”. Fortunately, the heroes were all distracted before Drax could continue to slaughter everyone else’s names.

It’s unclear if Drax really didn’t know the real names of the Avengers or if he was just a smart aleck. Drax has shown an unusual wit in the past, and although he was supposedly childish and straightforward during this phase of his existence, there is always the possibility that he knows more than he said. While his own name is usually associated with fighting, in this case, “Drax the DestroyerShowed he was just as good at destroying superhero names as he was at disparaging people’s faces.
